Happy Veterans Day! We're excited to honor and celebrate the courageous men and women who have served our country this Veterans Day! Here at SMUD, we’re especially proud of our Military Employee Resource Group (MERG), which plays a vital role in supporting our veteran employees by creating a strong, inclusive community within our organization. In Sacramento alone, nearly 20,000 veterans call this city home. We recognize the sacrifices they’ve made and the invaluable skills they bring to our workforce. Our MERG and SMUD employees proudly participated in Elk Grove’s Veterans Day parade where we had a bucket truck and snowcat showcased in the parade with American flags, paying tribute to veterans. A special thank you to SMUD Board Member Brandon Rose and Chief Diversity Officer Jose Bodipo Memba for showing support for our veterans and community. Established to recognize the profound contributions of indigenous peoples, this celebration was officially designated by President George H. W. Bush in 1990 as "National American Indian Heritage Month." As we reflect on this month, it's important to acknowledge the significant contributions Indigenous peoples have made to the United States and the world. Their traditions and lifeways remain enduring and vibrant today. SMUD operates on the traditional lands of the Maidu, Nisenan, Miwok, Washoe and Patwin Nations, including areas in Sacramento County, parts of El Dorado, the UARP region and Solano County.
