The Tampa Bay Chapter of SMPS is proud of its purpose and accomplishments. We are an aggressive and progressive marketing organization focusing on the needs of today's business owners, business developers, and marketing professionals. SMPS Tampa Bay has a twofold purpose. First, it is a vehicle in which to market our firms, learn about the A/E/C (architectural, engineering and construction) industry through our educational and informative monthly meetings, and to establish relationships with owners, different municipalities and companies within our community. The second part of our Chapter deals with reaching out and helping others. Through volunteering, our Lyle Trease Scholarship Program and charitable contributions, we have made a difference in the lives of those less fortunate while allowing us the opportunity to be able to give back to our community.

A warm thank you to SMPS Tampa Bay, Michelle Casale and Jonathan Santiago for inviting me as a guest speaker today to discuss the basics (or ABCs) of PR across architecture, engineering, and construction. With limited time (because I could talk PR and crisis comms all day long), attendees engaged in a conversation around the differences in marketing and public relations and how both add value and can strengthen reputation. We talked through media strategies and the importance of building relationships well before you need them. Finally, we worked through an accelerated mock crisis scenario in which attendees were tasked with identifying stakeholders and crafting crisis statements in under 10 minutes following a structural failure that led to a building collapse. The room was alive with energy, great questions, and learning opportunities for all, (including for the faciliator)! Thank you to those in attendance for your engagement and real-time feedback.
