Meet Jay Jones, our Co-Founder and CTO at SmoothAg. Originally from the windswept plains of Amarillo, Texas, Jay has always been at the intersection of country living and cutting-edge technology. His journey in tech started at 16, when he built his first computer. Today, he leads our software engineering efforts, including the development of the Ranch Rover and the RanchSync app. Jay’s path to technology leadership was fueled by his early experiences as a computer tech at Amarillo College, where he discovered his passion for problem-solving. This drive led him to Austin, where he advanced from a web developer to a senior software engineer before co-founding SmoothAg. While he may not have a traditional background in agriculture, Jay’s childhood in the Texas Panhandle and his expertise in technology bring a unique perspective to agricultural innovation. A lifelong learner and problem-solver, Jay’s passion is making life easier through technology—whether it’s developing software that revolutionizes ranching or learning to ride a unicycle to spread joy. Outside of work, he’s an avid skateboarder, runner, and unicyclist, always ready to tackle the next challenge. 85% of Texas cattle are in the panhandle. That’s 11.6% of the US cattle herd that were effected by the fires this week. Texas cattle ranchers will forever have to worry about the risks of fires to their ranches and cattle. But the question is- how can help ease the burden? Smooth Ag offers ranchers the chance to safely manage their herd, move their herd safely (with little human intervention), and feed their cattle. The Ranch Rover revolutionizes ranching- especially in times like these. Our hearts are with everyone that was affected by the the fires in the panhandle. Please pray for us here in the panhandle.
