Smoot Construction is honored to have been part of Kenyon College’s South Campus Housing Project, delivering two stunning residence halls: Thomas Hall and Winkler Hall. Named after Richard L. Thomas ’53 and Matt Winkler ’77 — both pillars of the Kenyon community — these new buildings will soon welcome students into modern, apartment-style suites designed with sustainability at the forefront. Built to Duke University’s High Performance Building Framework, each hall reflects Kenyon’s commitment to both tradition and innovation. We’re excited to contribute to Kenyon’s legacy and help create spaces where future generations of students will live, learn, and make lasting memories. Today, as we mark the anniversary of 9/11, we at Smoot Construction pause to remember the lives that were tragically lost, and the families left behind to carry their legacies forward. It’s a day that changed our nation, a day etched in our hearts forever. We reflect not only on the profound grief of that morning but also on the resilience, courage, and unity that followed. The strength of the American spirit was on full display, as communities across the country stood shoulder to shoulder, lifting each other through immense sorrow and loss. At Smoot Construction, we are committed to honoring this legacy through our work, standing tall as a company that believes in rebuilding with purpose, integrity, and compassion. We remember and honor the lives lost, the bravery of the first responders, and the families whose strength reminds us every day to value life and the power of togetherness. Last week, Smoot has the pleasure of its third year volunteering for the Healthy Homes Project, a partnership between Nationwide Children's Hospital and Turner Construction that allows AEC members to give back to their communities.
