Todd Niemiec and Chey Hsiao Taylor, AIA, LEED AP of SMNG A Ltd. were joined by Mercedes E. Miley of Farr Associates Architecture & Urban Design to accept awards from AIA Illinois for the Academy for Global Citizenship at the Cultivate Collective Campus. The project was awarded "Greatest Impact" for projects $5mm and above, and "Excellence in High-Performance Buildings" for this unique net-positive Phius Certified and LBC designed school. We extend our gratitude to AGC for the vision and dedication that brought this project to life, and to our team members and partners for their invaluable contributions including AGC, Cultivate Collective, URBAN ReSOLVE, dbHMS, V3 Companies, site design group, ltd., Stearn-Joglekar, Reitano Design Group, Studio 180, Baumann Consulting, WSP, SMW, and Power Construction. SMNG A Ltd. recently participated in two sessions during the 2024 Chicago Build Expo at McCormick Place.?Todd Niemiec and Angel Valtierra were joined by representatives of Academy for Global Citizenship, dbHMS, and Farr Associates Architecture & Urban Design in presenting the workshop, "AGC: Pioneering Sustainable Learning - A Net-Positive Energy Campus." Separately, Angel joined several industry leaders in the panel discussion "Cracking the Code: How Can Tech Shape the Future of the AEC Industry?" Coming Soon! SMNG A Ltd. is nearing completion on an extensive renovation to Chicago Park District's Riis Park Fieldhouse. Located in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood, this 1928 fieldhouse sits upon the 56-acre Riis Park site and was originally designed by Architect Walter Ahlschlager. The Fieldhouse was listed as a “contributing feature” to Riis Park’s status on the National Register for Historic Places in 1995. The renovation includes accessibility upgrades, new MEP systems, restored steel-sash windows with new high-efficiency glazing, reconfigured program spaces, new copper roof, expanded theatrical system and new finishes throughout. We look forward to this monumental project opening to the public very soon – including shared-use programming with the attached and newly completed CPS Belmont-Cragin Elementary School. As the summer comes to an end, we bid farewell to our incredible interns Julian and Joseph who are heading back to school. Their hard work, fresh perspectives, and enthusiasm have made a significant impact on our team. We will miss their energy and contributions, and we wish them all the best in their academic pursuits. Throwback Thursday to the AIA Chicago Tour of the Academy for Global Citizenship at the Cultivate Collective Campus.?The design team of SMNG A Ltd. (AOR), Farr Associates Architecture & Urban Design (Associate Architect), and dbHMS (EOR) gave a tour a new early childhood and K-8 charter school located Chicago’s southwest side. The group toured this state-of-art campus and learned about AGC's vision and program for the campus which incorporates health care services, an urban farm, a community market, and learning kitchens. Visitors discovered unique programmatic elements of the interior and exterior while the design team pointed out key requirements of the campus to meet the full petal certification for the Living Building Challenge. They also reviewed innovative sustainable design features incorporated into the design to meet net-positive energy and water. SMNG A Ltd. is proud to announce that the Academy for Global Citizenship at the Cultivate Collective Campus has been nominated as an Education Category FINALIST in AIA Chicago’s Lerch Bates People’s Choice Awards, presented in partnership with the Chicago Architecture Center! We need your help, VOTE here: https://bit.ly/3yG5k62 Built on the former site of the Chicago Housing Authority’s LeClaire Courts, the Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) is a pre-K to 8 charter school which anchors Cultivate Collective's 6-acre campus. This innovative facility includes a Head Start center, outpatient health center, three-acre urban farm, on-site market, community hall, and teaching kitchens for nutrition education. The 71,000 sf learning laboratory holds the distinction of being the first and largest recipient of the Phius Zero 2021 Design Certification. AGC is also pursuing the Living Building Challenge, further promoting net-positive energy use and sustainability. Beyond AGC's mission, the school hub extends amenities to the community and planned mixed-income housing and retail development.
