Tire testing is a constantly evolving space where we must continue to strive to learn and implement new science to improve. Through collaborations with organizations like CenTire, Smithers Principal Engineer, Eric Pierce was excited to work with author Chaitanya Sonalkar and co-authors Dr.Mohit Shenvi, Dr.Corina Sandu, and Dr.Costin Untaroiu to investigate the impact of spin count on the tractive performance of a 14" Standard Reference Test Tire (SRTT) on snow. After a previous study evaluated CTI values along with air and snow temperatures as performance factors, this new peer reviewed study determined that spin count had an even greater effect on overall snow traction prediction models, but only after a certain minimum number of spins. Testing for the study was conducted over five winter seasons at the Smithers Winter Test Center in Brimley, Michigan. https://lnkd.in/eihp72Q4
