On August 12, 2024, Steve Nolan was appointed Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Audit Committee by MSBA President, Raphael Santini. Steve has served on the Audit Committee since 2019 & was its Vice Chair under Judge Harry Storm, the long standing Committee Chair. In addition to serving as Chair of the MSBA‘s Litigation Section and three terms on its Board of Governors, Steve has enjoyed forming many friendships as a result of his activities within the Maryland Bar. He is also a past President of the Baltimore County Bar Association.

Most recently, Senior Counsel Eric Harlan was invited to co-chair the Class Action & Derivative Suits Committee of the ABA Section of Litigation for the 2024-2025 bar year based on his years of experience in complex litigation and class actions.?Prior to this appointment, Eric has chaired the Section of Litigation’s ADR, Expert Witness, and Trial Evidence Committees, and co-edited/authored a 50-state survey of the admissibility of expert testimony published by the ABA’s First Chair Press. It's been great having Arthur O'Malley join us this summer as a Legal Intern in the Complex Litigation Group! Arthur is a Baltimore native who graduated from Towson High School in 2021. Currently, he is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance at the College of Charleston, and he hopes to attend law school after graduating. Outside of school, Arthur enjoys playing basketball, exercising, and spending time outdoors. We thank Arthur for his contributions to the SGS team!

SGS would like to welcome its newest litigation paralegal, Max Carneal, to the team! Max graduated from Gilman School in 2020. He then enrolled at Colorado College where he graduated in 2024 with a degree in Political Science while playing Division III lacrosse. Max is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys activities such as fly fishing, hiking and traveling. SGS is grateful and excited to bring Max on board!

Meet Johnny Melancon, the newest addition to the SGS team! Johnny is a rising senior at Dickinson College where he is on the Pre-Law track – majoring in Political Science and minoring in Philosophy. He also plays for Dickinson’s men’s soccer team. ? Johnny will be working with the Litigation department at SGS for the summer, and we are thrilled to welcome him aboard!

Steve Nolan attended the American Lung Association’s 120th Anniversary Celebration dinner in Chicago on Friday, June 28, 2024.?Steve was the ALA’s National Board Chair in 2008-09 and then chaired the ALA’s Audit and Risk Oversight Committee.?In June 2019, Steve was awarded the ALA’s Will Ross Medal for Outstanding Volunteer Accomplishments & Impact. Pictured in the photo along with Steve are Cheryl A.
