Smith Gee Studio has been selected as one of 52 exhibitors for PORCH: An Architecture of Generosity, the U.S. Pavilion exhibition at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Organized by the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas in collaboration with DesignConnects and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, PORCH represents the United States’ exploration of civic engagement, community building, and social and environmental resilience through architecture and design. As part of the exhibition, our work will be featured within the U.S. Pavilion, contributing to the broader dialogue on the role of architecture in fostering generosity, connection, and cultural exchange. The Cherry Oak Apartments are the perfect addition to the East Nashville community?? This development is a four-story building with 96 units. According to the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA), there are 45 subsidized units for current Cayce Place residents, eight new affordable, six workforce and 37 market-rate apartments. Cherry Oak Apartments has market-rate amenities including granite countertops, tile backsplash and patios or balconies. The development also features a computer lounge, playground and green space. We are so thankful to be longtime partners with MDHA and Smith Gee Studio in bringing affordable housing to our community! We are currently under construction on another MDHA project, Park Point East, which will neighbor the Cherry Oak development. ??Photos by Andrew Keithly Photography

Fifteen years ago, amidst the Great Recession, we – Fleming Smith, Hunter Gee, FAIA, Dallas Caudle, and Gregory Tidwell, AICP – founded Smith Gee Studio with a shared vision, a shoestring budget, and the support of friends, colleagues, and advisors. We continued pursuing our passion for placemaking, creating a firm rooted in collaboration and community. Little did we know our home city of Nashville was on the verge of an unprecedented boom – or that the firm would grow into a 55-person team shaping communities across the country. We’re so proud to own a small part in our city’s success. Our involvement in the Nashville community has been the foundation of our growth, expanding to projects in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Huntsville, Pensacola, Sedona, and beyond, all while staying true to our commitment to people and place. The four of us, along with our partners, Scott Morton, RLA, LEED AP, Mona Hodge, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, Andy Berry, and Jesse Wilmoth want to say “thank you” to our clients, consultants, team members, friends, and families for your trust and support. We look forward to the next 15 years of designing places that bring people together!

Congratulations to our own Mona Hodge, AIA, NOMA, LEED AP on her appointment to the East Bank Development Authority by Mayor Freddie O'Connell. As a longtime East Nashville resident and a leader in affordable housing, Mona brings an invaluable perspective to this distinguished team. Reflecting on the opportunity, Mona shared: “I’m just excited to be a part of such a tremendous team of civil servants that the mayor, the governor, and our councilmen and women have brought together to help shape the redevelopment of this district. It's going to be an exciting and historic change to our city, shaping a district that really reflects the complexity and diversity of our city and what it takes to create a thriving economy.” We’re proud to see Mona bringing her expertise to this transformative project, helping shape the future of our city!
