The SmartSat CRC team has been busy catching up with colleagues from NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at i-SAIRAS 2024 in Brisbane this week! ?? CEO Professor Andy Koronios, Strategic Advisor Lt Gen Larry James USAF (Ret'd), and Dr Carl Seubert caught up with NASA JPL Group Supervisor, Dr Amir Rahmani. ?? SmartSat CRC and the New Zealand Space Agency have announced today the second round of jointly funded space research projects under the Australia-New Zealand Collaborative Space Program. In partnership with New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the four new projects focus on advancing Earth Observation technologies to address crop and agricultural monitoring, advancing biomass mapping and supporting indigenous communities through Earth Observation technologies. SmartSat CRC's SCARLET Lab Masters students have won the Most Outstanding Poster for a Post Graduate Professional Capstone Project at the University of South Australia Enterprising STEM Expo 2024! ????? The Enterprising STEM Expo?offers students the chance to exhibit innovative projects designed to tackle real-world challenges presented by industry clients. Under the mentorship of SmartSat PhD student Donna Fitzgerald, students Arun Menon, Avinash Lohana, Reyna Roy and Shivani Shah took out the top prize for their poster on native vegetation classification using satellite imagery, outlining their project to apply advanced machine learning algorithms to classify land into either native vegetation, agriculture or housing.
