How to Start and Grow a Successful Online Business. ? The 5 fundamental steps to build from scratch: If you want to succeed, you need a clear and actionable plan.?That’s where the SMART framework comes in.? Follow these 5 steps to go from idea to income:? Step 1: Select Your Niche ??? ? Clearly define your audience and the problem you’ll solve.?? ? Focus on a niche you’re passionate about and people need help with.? Step 2: Market Your Platform ?? ? Choose the platform where your audience spends their time.?? ? Whether it’s YouTube, a podcast, blog or social media—start publishing regularly. It doesn't have to be daily, but the more often you post, the quicker you'll learn what works and what doesn't, and the more loyal your audience will become. Step 3: Audience Building ???? ? Grow a community of loyal followers.?? ? Aim for 1,000 email subscribers by consistently delivering value.? Step 4: Revenue Generation ???? ? Launch your first product, course, or service.?? ? Start small and focus on earning your first $1,000 online.? Step 5: Time to Scale ???? ? Optimize, automate, and expand your business.?? ? Work toward $5,000/month in revenue while streamlining your efforts.?You can grow and scale from there, but shoot for this mark, and it becomes a lot more achievable. This framework breaks the process into actionable steps. The biggest thing is not to worry about tackling everything at once—focus on where you are right now.??Just-in-Time Information. In 2008, I discovered a podcast that changed my life. It was called Internet Business Mastery, and the hosts, Sterling and Jay, became my virtual mentors. Sterling and Jay were just their stage names for the podcast, but Jeremy and Jason will always be known to me as Sterling and Jay. It just sounds so cool. Listening to episodes every day, I felt heard. I felt like I wasn't alone. I felt like things were possible. I needed that, because I had just been laid off and felt lost. I realized, however, that just listening to the podcast every day, as inspiring as it was, wasn't getting me anywhere. I needed to take action. Fate would have it that Sterling was coming to San Diego, where I live, and I had the chance to meet him, but it wasn't just him –?it was 8 other people just like me who were trying to figure things out, too. It was at that very meeting that Jeremy and the group suggested I sell a study guide on my architecture exam tips website that I was slowly building, and I still remember all of us talking about it for 30 minutes straight. That 30 minutes changed my life. Jeremy and the others all contributed to what eventually turned into a 6-figure business in a year, and 7-figures much later. I was so sad to see Internet Business Mastery disband a few years later. Sterling and Jay went their own directions, and I had to find my people elsewhere after that. The biggest lessons I've learned are: 1. You can't go through the journey alone and win. I truly believe that it's literally impossible. It's too lonely and it's so easy to get in your own way, you will fail if you think you can do all of this in a bubble. I would have. 2. There are so many others like you out there, you just have to step out of your comfort zone and find them. As a shy person, it was hard to put myself out there and find these connections. I think this is why I loved the podcast, because it felt like I was with someone, but I had nothing to worry about. Your people are out there, you just need to find them & connect.
