Union representing members in the rail, transit, bus and airline industries
关于我们
We are the SMART Transportation Division, an AFL-CIO affiliate headquartered near Cleveland, Ohio. We are a broad-based, transportation labor union representing about 125,000 active and retired railroad, bus, mass transit and airline workers in the United States. With offices in Cleveland and Washington, D.C., the SMART TD is the largest railroad operating union in North America, with more than 500 locals. The SMART TD (formerly UTU) represents employees on every Class I railroad, as well as employees on many regional and shortline railroads. It also represents bus and mass transit employees on approximately 45 bus and transit systems and has recently grown to include airline pilots, dispatchers and other airport personnel. We are calling all available members to join forces with our 500 dedicated SMART-TD brothers and sisters at the MBTA commuter Railroad operated by Keolis in Boston, Massachusetts. Our members have been without a contract since July 1, 2022, and they need our support now more than ever. https://lnkd.in/gH8P3D5k

Hundreds of rail workers gathered in Houston to discuss labor issues across organizations at the annual Texas rally. Attendees enjoyed great food, great fellowship, and prepared to face our shared challenges with a renewed sense of solidarity. https://lnkd.in/gCkfvtZS

In a letter to SMART-TD members, Marty Oberman, retired chair of the Surface Transportation Board, details the progress and policies at risk in this election. “The protections of rail workers … depends a lot on whether these important offices are filled by a worker-oriented administration. We will need an Administration that will appoint officials who care about rail workers and continue the aggressive oversight [provided] by the current Democratic-led STB and FRA.” https://lnkd.in/gD9xhb6p

Like other federal agencies, the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) has been operating under a continuing resolution since October 1, 2024, the start of fiscal year (FY) 2025. This affects rail unemployment, sickness and customer service for retirees. https://lnkd.in/gS659h2H

Great news for railroad workers! Starting in 2025, monthly health and wellness contributions will drop by 10.2% because of fewer claims filed in 2024. This landmark achievement is a testament to the hard work and responsible choices of our members! https://lnkd.in/gPkuDDyt

Action may close port terminals from Maine to Houston as longshoremen demand their fair share of profits, quality of life and protection from automation. The strike could halt half of the goods that enter or exit the US. While we can’t join them, we can support their action. Stay safe and show our solidarity because we are fighting the same fight. https://lnkd.in/gH-rdKKZ
