Accelerating the digital transformation of manufacturers and their supply chains
关于我们
Recognized internationally for its leadership in Smart Manufacturing, SMLC is a national 501C6 non-profit that includes manufacturers, solution providers, academia, national labs, associations and government agencies. SMLC envisions a 21st century SM enterprise (from suppliers, OEMs, and companies to supply chains) that is fully integrated, knowledge-enabled, and model rich. Such visibility across the enterprise (internal and external) would radically improve the ability to inform decisions and drive action. Without an open, industrial infrastructure, adoption of Smart Manufacturing is not economically viable. Solutions implemented in piecemeal fashion will continue to limit innovation and capability. In 2021 SMLC became part of Advanced Manufacturing International (AMI), a Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group (MTDG) company.

While CNC machining has been a crucial part of the manufacturing process for quite some time, AI has added new capabilities. Now, CNC machining is more precise because of real-time data analytics. AI algorithms analyze data from sensors within the machines and detect deviations and anomalies that we might miss. #CNCMachining #Manufacturing #AI

Advisor | Board Member | Executive Fellow @ World Economic Forum | NAM 2023 Mfg. Leader of the Year | Retired J&J Mfg. & Supply Chain Sr. Executive
I'm excited to share that I’ve JOINED the ADVISORY BOARD of the Smart Manufacturing Executive Council (SMEC), co-chaired by John Dyck of CESMII and Jeannine Kunz of SME. SMEC brings together business and technology executives, thought leaders, and visionaries advocating to strengthen U.S. manufacturing and boost its competitiveness by accelerating the adoption of Smart Manufacturing. As a SMART MANUFACTURING ADVISOR, I look forward to collaborating with John Dyck, Jeannine Kunz, the SMEC team and my colleague advisors Sudhi Bangalore, Dean Bartles, Rick Bullotta, Simon J., Matthew Littlefield, Colin Masson, Jim Wetzel and Jeff Winter. Together, we’re transforming the U.S. manufacturing landscape, elevating the ecosystem, and equipping manufacturers with tools & resources to succeed in times of dynamic change and external disruption. One key initiative introduced at the recent CESMII Annual Meeting is the SMART MANUFACTURING PLAYBOOK. This resource will guide members through their Smart Manufacturing journey with strategic insights, proven practices & case studies, and actionable tools. Further development and deployment are coming soon—stay tuned! I’m thrilled to contribute to this effort, given the impact it can make on U.S. manufacturing and its competitiveness. I am confident that this groundbreaking work will create a game-changing impact.

Global trade is undergoing a transformation driven by geopolitical shifts, trade policies, and economic uncertainties, creating both challenges and opportunities for manufacturers and supply chains. During the “Geopolitical Shifts” panel at the World Manufacturing Forum 2024, experts Dean Bartles (MTDG), Agustín J. Sáenz (Tecnalia), and Simone Marchetti (Oracle) shared insights on navigating these disruptions and building resilient supply chains. The discussion, titled “Global Trade Tipping Points for Manufacturing & Supply Chains,” explored the following key takeaways: Dean Bartles, CEO & President, Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group, Inc.; Reshoring and near-shoring are critical strategies for strengthening supply chain resilience. Companies can mitigate risks from global disruptions by fostering tighter control over local suppliers, particularly in the defense sector. Bartles also emphasised the importance of collaborating with trusted allies and NATO countries to ensure supply chain security in uncertain geopolitical climates. The rise of reshoring presents challenges and opportunities, requiring a balance between local production and strong international partnerships. Agustín Saenz, Strategy, Market & Technology Director, TECNALIA Research & Innovation: Saenz highlighted a hybrid approach that combines competition and collaboration as the most effective way forward, allowing companies to leverage critical mass and align strategies. Given its large, young workforce and untapped potential, he sees Africa as a key opportunity for future manufacturing. New technologies and collaborations could help unlock growth in the region. For Europe, Saenz urged flexibility in adapting to near-shoring, stressing the need to evaluate the entire ecosystem rather than focusing solely on immediate cost-saving measures. Simone Marchetti, Business Development Manager, Oracle: Marchetti advocated for supply chain viability, emphasising long-term collaboration among global partners. He noted that disconnected value chains limit growth and highlighted the need for tech-enabled communication. Digital transformation is now a key enabler of supply chain efficiency. With rising pressures and volatile markets, companies must adopt innovative technologies like AI and cloud solutions to stay agile. Technology is not just for developed markets; affordable tech solutions can empower businesses in regions like Africa, providing new growth opportunities and improving the lives of younger generations. Key Takeaways: - Resilience and collaboration are essential for navigating today’s trade challenges. - Technology plays a vital role in enabling global supply chain agility and should be harnessed across all regions. - Opportunities in Africa and other emerging markets should be explored to build a diverse, resilient supply chain ecosystem.
