Small businesses seeking assistance have a huge menu to choose from, including courses, mentors, technical assistance, incubators, accelerators, maker spaces, and co-working spaces. ???? But one approach that really impresses me is called the Silver Lining Action Plan, or SLAP?, designed by Carissa Reiniger. SLAP? combines behavioral science, simple software templates, collaborative structures, and a team of experts to help client businesses grow, improve, and flourish. The company also offers capital to clients based—not on their credit scores or any other traditional metrics—but on their SLAP? performance. This issue’s interview with Carissa provides a more in-depth picture of the virtues and successes of the SLAP? approach. ?? Please share with local businesspeople you know!

This is the second installment of our American Small Business Growth Program (ASBGP) Insights Series and this time we are featuring the State of Small Business in America Mini Doc Series we produced! There is no question that small business is the backbone of the US economy and there are undeniable stats to prove it. What I love about this work is that these 10 mini documentaries tell the stories behind those stats. As part of ASBGP, under the banner of our Thank You Small Business Global Movement, we did a call for US-based small business owners who had fabulous storytelling skills and/or who actually owned small production companies. 10 of them were chosen and each were given a $5,000 contract to create a short film, telling the stories of small business owners from their communities. I cannot encourage you enough to visit the virtual watch room (in the metaverse!) at the link below and take an hour to watch all 10 mini docs. They are incredibly well done, tell such important stories about American SMBs and, every time I watch them, I am reminded again of why the work of changing the economy one small business at a time is such beautiful and critical work. I also want to use this chance to give recognition again to the 10 #smallbusinessowners who created this incredible body of work. Aaron Villarreal - the stories of SMBs in the West Side of San Antonio Andi Morrow - the stories of Appalachian SMBs who are reclaiming their local economy from large retail chains Calvin Platt (IG: @undercover_cal/) - the story (in very cool animation!) of how the money we spend with small business owners moves through the economy Damien Goodmon - the story of SMBs in Crenshaw facing displacement from gentrification and a vision for the Solidarity Economy Daniel Fitch - the story of Black Muslim small business owners who reconcile capitalism and Sharia Law DezBaa' . - the story of a SMB educating young and old about bees and it's importance to the Navajo Tribe friday jones - the stories of artists building small businesses in Charlotte Kelly Ngo - the stories of Asian small business owners in Chicago's Argyle Street Owl Rare - the story of Black & Mexican SMBs in San Diego Shirley Rodriguez - the story of women business owners who care for the collective Seriously - GO WATCH THESE MINI DOCS! https://lnkd.in/g86JA9pK Thank you to Wells Fargo and, specifically, Christopher Johnson, Nicole Adler Mas and Kim Erlichson for partnering with Silver Lining to make this happen. This series will live on forever - it is so powerful. Stay tuned for next week when we will share our early insights on work we did that has spurred an entire long term strategy focused on Modernizing Technical Assistance to meet the real and urgent needs of small business owners! #WeAreSilverLining #SmallIsBig #SmallBusiness #SmallBusinessOwners #TYSmallBiz

QUITO! Ecuador was the 9th country we visited on our Silver Lining World Tour and it was such an incredible experience for so many reasons! We hosted a SLAP Workshop and a VIP Gathering at Mindalae Museo Artesanías del Ecuador which is not only a really well curated museum that shares the history of indigenous people, but also a fair-trade store creating job opportunities for many! Catalina Sosa is a multi-year SLAPster and the owner of the Museum. It was an honor to be in her space, to learn from her, to buy from her and to see the incredible small business she is building. Quito also gave me the beautiful gift of meeting long-time (and very impressive!) SLAPsters, Diego Palma, Francisco Palma Hoyos and Nicolas Bahamonde! I love each of their talent, amazing businesses and kindness. Huge shout out to Diego and Francisco who ran an Impact5X cohort for LATAM and actually brought both Catalina and Nico to SLAP! And a shout out to Nico who said something so beautiful at our VIP Gathering - we need to celebrate high touch, not high tech products. Check out the photo with the beautiful handmade gift he gave me, made through his small business - Amalgama Toys (www.amalgamatoys.com) I was truly so impressed and inspired by the generosity of Ecuador - we called many industry leaders, inviting them to the VIP Gathering and we were honored to have so many attend and offer clear insights into the state of small business in Ecuador. We have left Ecuador, but we will 1000% be back and have become very committed to building strong partnerships and doing much more work with small businesses throughout Ecuador. We have much more to do together Rocio Velarde Michelle Arevalo-Carpenter Natalia Almeida Suárez Francisco X. Abad gisela montalvo Mariel Paz y Mino Santiago Ontaneda Vivar Santiago Larrea Serrano! And, last, but most certainly not least - a huge thank you to Juan Pablo Rivadeneira Jijón. Not only is he an incredibly valued team member and our global SLAPmethodology Lead at Silver Lining - but he lives in Quito and he has been a huge advocate for his country - working hard to get me there and always pushing us to spend more company resources to support small business owners in Ecuador. Your work has paid off! Thank you for being a hugely important part of Silver Lining, a great translator at our event and a wonderful advocate for the SMBs of Ecuador! You are truly Ecuadorian Born and Globally Inspired! :)
