Intermittent Humans - not PV It was great being a panelist representing SMA Solar & SMA America at the CERAWeek talking about “Solar Power: Costs, competitiveness and energy abundance” alongside Abby Hopper (CEO of Solar Energy Industries Association), Martin DeBono (President of GAF Energy), Ingmar Ritzenhofen (CFO RWE Clean Energy and our moderator Francesco d'Avack from S&P Global. We discussed how there’s nothing intermittent about the sun; it doesn’t take a break. Theoretically all the PV plants across the world from the #United States to #Germany, #UAE to #Australia could be linked into a global grid and have 24x7 power from PV. Well, that’s not possible because humans are not ready to settle their differences & the thing called “national security” is not going anywhere. So, who’s intermittent now? Us the humans and let’s don’t project our intermittency on the PV. Given that the intermittency is there to stay, we discussed how #PV needs to be firmed with #storage & #gridforming.
