The small space of #assetbasedlending is expected to expand--and SLR Capital Partners anticipates more M&A opportunities to acquire seasoned portfolios as commercial banks "retreat from certain niche markets." Last year, SLR Business Credit acquired a $124 million AB factoring portfolio from Connecticut-based Webster Bank [NYSE: WBS]. "I think private lenders have an advantage over banks because we can find better returns without certain regulatory pressure," Cedric Henley told Octus. Other deals in the space include Barings' 2021 acquisition of Encina Business Credit (renamed Eclipse Business Credit); and Benefit Street Partners' 2019 acquisition of ABL provider Siena Capital Finance.
