SLICK SLIDE

Sometimes the best experiences begin with a few tears of fear. It was 10 minutes into an activity my son had been talking about non-stop for the whole weekend. We were going to slide together at Slick City Action Park. He had been before but it was my first time. After doing the same two slides 3 times, I wanted him to try a new one. Like many of us in the #business world, he was afraid of trying something new. As we talked, I tried to reason rationally with him; tried to encourage him; and finally when all else failed, I gave him a choice. Try a new slide or leave for the day. The tears started flowing. As I had second thoughts as a parent on whether or not I did the right thing in that moment, I went with my gut and stood my ground. He wiped his tears and went for it. He took a #risk. He put his #trust in me. It paid off in an unbelievable way. My son who was fearful to try something outside his comfort zone became a bit of a …dare I say… #underwriter. He thought about the risk reward of every slide. We looked at the slide from bottom and the top. We watched other kids try it. If he really wasn’t sure, he sent me down first to be his eyes and report back on my experience. He did every slide in the park and loved every second of it. We had the best day together. As a parent, manager, or team member, think about situations like these that happen every day in our lives. Be the type of person that helps others achieve their full #potential.
