For Elaine, life is all about those moments that spark wonder and curiosity—like that unforgettable summer in the early ’90s when she visited Disney World and Sea World with her family. Those magical experiences opened her eyes to the thrill of discovery and showed her just how big and exciting the world could be. ????? Elaine’s vision for Sledge Institute? She wants our school to be the ultimate springboard for every student’s passion for learning and discovery. ?? Meet Dr. Keesha Landis, our extraordinary Founding Principal at Sledge Institute! A lifelong lover of learning, Keesha Landis, Ed.D’s 15-year career in education has been fueled by her passion for sparking curiosity and inspiring young minds. Growing up in Elizabeth City, NC, Dr. Landis was the student who lived for school. She was so eager to learn that weekends felt too long because she missed the excitement of the classroom! Learning was her world—she’d come home bursting to share new facts with her parents, and she believes every child deserves that same joy. That’s why she’s on a mission to make Sledge Institute a place of endless exploration and boundless discovery, where students are thrilled to come to school and race home to tell their families about all the exciting things they learned. ??? Dr. Landis earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Elizabeth City State University, a Master’s in Biology Education from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Doctorate in Education from Gardner-Webb University. From inspiring students as a biology teacher in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County to leading as an administrator and district instructional coach in Warren County, she’s done it all. She’s even taken her passion for STEM education global, consulting for EdTech companies to make sure learning tools actually work for students. But Dr. Landis is more than an education powerhouse. She’s a true Renaissance woman who loves papercrafting, practicing the violin, identifying insects, and taking scenic nature walks. She and her husband, William, love their Warren County community, and she can’t wait to bring her blend of creativity, science, and exploration to our students. Dr. Landis’s vision for Sledge Institute? A school where every student is excited to learn, inspired to explore, and proud to share their discoveries. Mike treasures the sense of community and belonging he experienced in school, where he discovered who he was and felt immense pride in his personal identity and role within his community. It was the traditions and experiences of his school days that laid the foundation for his leadership. Now, he moves across the globe, leading leaders, speaking on stages, and inspiring others—all while staying deeply rooted in his home community. And in true Sledge Institute spirit, he’s multi-faceted, keeping the party going by spinning on the ones and twos. Because at Sledge Institute, we know the value of joy while working! ??????????
