Meet Jashley Estevez, a dedicated paralegal in our Maryland office that joined the firm in December 2024. Jashley works with our legal team on Child Sexual Abuse cases and currently supports clients who suffered abuse within the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. Jashley graduated from Stevenson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Through a pivotal internship at a Maryland juvenile detention facility, she gained invaluable experience working with vulnerable populations, which continues to shape her legal career today. SETTLEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: We are proud to share that attorneys James Lewis and Babak Shirdel of our California team secured a $1,750,000 settlement for a client who was sexually abused as a student in the 1970s by a middle school janitor employed by a public school district. Despite knowledge of the inappropriate relationship, administrators failed to intervene to protect the student.

Breaking News: Lawsuit Filed Against Maryland Department of Juvenile Services Today's Baltimore Sun features a lawsuit filed by Slater Slater Schulman on behalf of 69 men who were sexually abused by a former employee at a Baltimore County DJS facility over 30 years. Adam Slater, Founding and Managing Partner, stated, “These allegations are shocking, but not surprising. The system became an open playground for abusers, and the number of plaintiffs highlights the state's failure to protect vulnerable children. SETTLEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: We are proud to share that attorneys James Lewis, Andrew Chung, and Ivanna Shakh of our California team secured a $2,500,000 settlement for a client who was sexually abused by an elementary school teacher in 1976. Despite reports of abuse, the school district took no action. The matter was settled on the eve of trial in Riverside County Superior Court.
