One day in June, Ms. Lettie Teague entered the Slater Run Vineyards tasting room. Kiernan and I were out of town on errands, and Katell was not here that day either, and so we did not witness the historic event. The Lettie Teague, the former Executive Wine Editor of Food & Wine Magazine for 12 years. The Lettie Teague, who has been the Wine Columnist for The Wall Street Journal for the past 15 years. According to Karl Selzer, Slater Run's Associate Winemaker, she was here -- Lettie Teague is walking through the door of the tasting room, and now she is moving across the tasting room floor, without drama, and now Lettie Teague is at the concrete bar, no trumpets, no thunder, and now she is taking out her tape recorder, "click", it is on. Lettie Teague is speaking with Karl. She is drinking sips of wines and asking questions. Lettie Teague has come to Slater Run, down from Olympus, to taste the wines and write her thoughts in the Wall Street Journal. "Sing, o muse ..." On July 18, the piece was run in the The Journal, with the headline "America's Next Great Wine Destination? Northern Virginia. Within driving distance of Washington, D.C., there's a wine region you'll want to get to before the crowds do, offering a warm welcome and winemaking that leans more European than California. The prices aren't bad either." Ms. Teague visited wineries in Northern Virginia and wrote about Delaplane Cellars, Linden Vineyards, Boxwood Estate Winery, and Slater Run Vineyards. She concludes her article by saying that she "headed home excited about the state's vinous possibilities ...". As for Slater Run, she wrote that she "particularly liked the 2023 Pétillant Naturel Sparkling Rosé ($38) a compulsively drinkable, fresh, fizzy blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon; the 2023 ... Pinot Gris ($28), a crisp white with notes of citrus and tropical fruit; and the 2021 ... Cabernet Franc ($34), a bright, juicy and toothsome red that further convinced [her] that Virginia could have a bright future in Cabernet Franc". A few days later a couple walked into the tasting room with a copy of her article in hand and purchased a case of each of these three wines. Thank you to Ms. Teague and to The Wall Street Journal for visiting and showcasing our region. Chris P. Below - SRV Winemakers Katell Griaud and Karl Selzer with the wines featured in the WSJ article

关于我们
Slater Run Vineyards, founded in 2010 by Chris and Kiernan (Slater) Patusky, is located in Upperville, Virginia. Our winery features premium French-style wines made from Virginia grown grapes, the majority of which come from the 13-acres of vineyards on site. Our winemaker, Katell Griaud, was raised at her family’s winery in Monbazillac, France, and she received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in winemaking from Bordeaux University. Sustainability and stewardship of the land are a part of our everyday practices that include hand-harvesting in the vineyard and solar powered operations in the winery. We offer a Hunt Country estate wine experience with sweeping views overlooking the vineyard on land that has been in the Slater family for over 300 years.
