The Tennessee Wetland Screening Tool is now live! Skytec is pleased to announce the launch of the Tennessee Wetland Screening Tool, developed in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). The interactive tool helps document the current locations and extents of wetlands across the state. This resource uses an enhanced version of the Esri Arc Hydro Wetland Identification Model (WIM), along with advanced deep learning tools, LiDAR-derived predictor variables, and high-resolution imagery. Supported by partnerships with Esri, Microsoft, Planet, regulatory agencies, regional scientists, and nonprofits, the tool provides an interactive interface where users can explore model results for potential wetland areas. By streamlining the process of locating and approximating wetland extents, the tool supports environmental planning, due diligence, conservation initiatives, and regulatory compliance. Learn more about the Wetland Screening Tool in our recent blog post: https://lnkd.in/ew6PCzaX View the Wetland Screening Tool: https://lnkd.in/eCXQGqs3 #Wetlands #EnvironmentalPlanning #GIS

Skytec Capture of the Month: Change Detection at Scale How do you monitor over 120,000 square kilometers of land efficiently and effectively? With Ranger, we make large-scale environmental monitoring accessible, providing organizations with the actionable analytics they need to track landscape changes over vast areas. This month’s captures showcase how change detection at scale can support land management decisions and provide critical insights into ecosystem dynamics. Powered by GeoAI and high-resolution satellite data, Ranger enables continuous observation, helping stakeholders detect, document, and respond to changes with confidence. Check out these images to see the power of change detection at scale. The magenta represents a decrease in vegetation health or land disturbance activities, while green represents vegetation growth. ? ? #MonitorWhatMatters #RemoteMonitoring #GeoAI

We are kicking off the 2025 “Capture of the Month” series with this video highlighting the results of Skytec’s 2025 Tennessee Wetlands Predictive Model over the scenic Sequatchie Valley. The Sequatchie Valley, situated in the heart of the South Cumberland Plateau, contains the headwaters and full length of the Sequatchie River along with rich agricultural lands, wetlands, and bottomland hardwood forests. Wetlands play a crucial role in maintaining and enriching existing landscapes by supporting biodiversity, improving water quality, and providing flood control. In the video, predicted wetlands (highlighted in light blue) are displayed alongside existing National Wetland Inventory (NWI) features (in green). This animation showcases a highly detailed 3D point cloud generated from Planet’s SkySat stereo imagery captured on November 25, 2024 for our colleagues and clients at the Appalachian Conservation Institute. The dataset leverages the stereo capture capability and multispectral attributes of SkySat's high-resolution imagery to generate measurements of ground and forest canopy surfaces. The point cloud is colorized using the near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, enhancing vegetation health and density visualization. In this representation, red areas specifically highlight evergreen forest stands. These include both planted forests, such as managed timber plantations, and naturally occurring stands, which are typically indicative of mature or regenerating forest ecosystems. Near-infrared data is particularly effective in distinguishing evergreen species because of their strong reflectance in NIR wavelengths, which contrasts with the reflectance patterns of other vegetation types or bare ground. This visualization emphasizes the structural complexity of the landscape and provides critical insights into the distribution and health of evergreen forests, offering valuable information for forestry management, conservation planning, and ecological studies. The detailed resolution of the SkySat imagery combined with the photogrammetric processing ensures a high level of accuracy in the point cloud, making it an essential tool for both scientific analysis and practical applications. Capture of the Month: As our built and natural communities continue to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Skytec is committed to providing actionable insights that aid in restoration efforts. Using advanced geospatial analysis and high-resolution satellite imagery from Planet Labs, we’ve developed a 3D change detection model that captures the extensive flood damage, landslides, and defoliation across the region. Our model reveals critical information to support ongoing recovery: ·?Flooded Areas: Detailed mapping of flood zones, including significant washouts near vital infrastructure such as water impoundments. ·?Landslide Risks: Identification of unstable hillsides and landslides that threaten both natural landscapes and nearby communities. ·?Forest Damage: Visualization of forest defoliation and storm-induced stress, crucial for planning long-term environmental recovery and wildlife conservation. By delivering these insights, we aim to support local authorities, environmental organizations, and residents in their efforts to rebuild, mitigate future risks, and restore the natural beauty of the gorge. Our team is proud to offer tools that help address the immediate needs of those impacted while also contributing to more resilient planning for the future. We believe that geospatial intelligence can play a vital role in supporting communities as they recover and rebuild. We’re here to help, now and in the future. If you'd like to learn more about our disaster recovery models, please reach out to us. #CommunitySupport #HurricaneRecovery #Geospatial #ChangeDetection #FloodMonitoring #LandslideRisk #ForestRestoration #Resilience #PlanetLabs #HickoryNutGorge #RemoteSensing

Meeting today’s environmental and planning challenges requires contemporary wetlands geospatial information. While the National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provides our Nation’s most comprehensive wetlands data, it is out of date in large portions of the U.S. Given the vital ecosystem services wetlands provide and the rapidly changing landscape, both physically and in a regulatory context, contemporary wetlands data is crucial. Advances in machine learning and high-resolution data sources like LiDAR and satellite imagery now make the rapid production of wetlands data possible. In response, Skytec has expertly utilized the Esri Arc Hydro Wetland Identification Model (WIM) as part of our comprehensive approach, integrating it with our own advanced methodologies and skillsets to predict wetland locations and extents in Tennessee, marking its largest and first statewide application. This model leverages various inputs, including LiDAR data, high-resolution imagery, meticulously curated training data, and scientific expertise, to enhance wetland conservation, permitting, and planning activities. We are excited to share the insightful results over the coming months. Contact us to learn more about this important work and how to participate in expanding these efforts. #wetlands #modeling #biodiversity
