#Microneedle arrays are one of the most active areas of research in #microfluidics and #LabOnAChip. The arrays are about the size of a postage stamp and can be integrated into band-aid style of devices or #wearables. The needles are large enough to get just below the skin and interact with the immune system, but small enough that there is zero discomfort. Here's something you don't get asked for every day... 3 x 5 um channels! The customer had a very special mold that was damaged and needed to go BACKWARDS from PDMS to a hard mold for replicates. Luckily, we specialize in polymers and really sweat the detail work. We were able to do several things: 1. Confirm the sizes and map the surface of the PDMS samples they had. 2. Develop a process and spec materials for clear resin that could act as a replacement for the SU8 mold. 3. Test silanization for removal of PDMS parts down to a few microns 4. Confirm the new molds provided an EXACT copy of the 3x5 um channels, (+/-200nm)! 5. Develop the process to continue keeping enough molds for indefinite replicates. 6. Deliver it all ahead of schedule in under 4 weeks. Here are some images of it, along with the confirmation run to test the elasticity of red blood cells.
