Skookum was honored back in July to welcome Vice Admiral Johnny Wolfe Jr. to our HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) Maintenance Shop at Naval Base Kitsap, where he praised our vehicle maintenance team for their remarkable support of the Navy’s critical mission. Earlier this month, he returned to further recognize their efforts, presenting challenge coins to Skookum team members who made an impact. ? As part of the Strategic Systems Program (SSP) mission to safeguard our nation’s sea-based nuclear deterrent, Skookum stepped up to solve a pressing issue. When only 15 of 38 Humvees were operational, our team worked tirelessly, transforming our maintenance facility and bringing 31 of 38 vehicles back into service in just three months. This work directly supports the Marine Corps unit protecting the vital assets at NBK Bangor, one of two home ports for the Navy’s ballistic missile submarines. ? A huge shoutout to our Skookum team for their dedication to service excellence. We’re proud to stand behind our commitment to the Navy’s mission at the highest level!

As we continue to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’d like to share a success story of a partnership at Skookum NSBOSC. Meet Cole. He had a hard time gaining meaningful employment due to his disabilities. After an interview process, we were able to create a Laborer position for him. Soon after he was hired, a more senior employee, Patrick, a retired Navy Chief and GMW3, took Cole under his wing and became a mentor and teacher. With Patrick’s guidance, Cole has truly thrived! Over the past year, he has transformed into an integral part of our maintenance team, independently performing tasks across 10+ barracks facilities at NASWI. Cole's journey and his partnership with Patrick is a powerful reminder of the impact of inclusive opportunities. We're excited to share that we just promoted him to a GMW1 position—an incredible milestone for a self-starter who now confidently interacts with the barracks staff and has earned the admiration of the Structural shop. Let’s continue to champion inclusivity and support the talents of individuals like Cole! ???? #InclusionMatters #BreakingBarriers #NDEAM #DiversityAndInclusion #Empowerment #CelebrateDifference
