As we head into #LaborDay weekend, we want to acknowledge the incredible contributions of our Skirballers, whose hard work has a profound impact on our community.
??Meet Savannah L. Jackson, M.F.A., a Noah's Ark and Family Programs Educator. Savannah joined the Skirball in 2019 and has been welcoming visitors to Noah’s Ark ever since.
Q: Tell us about a past or present exhibition you enjoyed and why.
A: In 2019, Skirball hosted Black Is Beautiful: The Photography of Kwame Brathwaite. I love how Brathwaite's photography celebrated Black women and instilled a sense of pride throughout the community.
Q: Describe a Skirball event you had the opportunity to attend. What made it special for you?
A: The Skirball Puppet Festival: A World of Dreams, always fills me with joy! Watching little ones marvel at a plethora of puppets, big and small, while dancing to Top Shelf Brass Band refreshes my 'why' as an arts educator every time.
Q:?What's one activity you prioritize outside of the Skirball? How does it interact with the work you do here?
A:?I absolutely love gardening and caring for the Earth! We have a garden outside of Noah's Ark, in the breezeway, and a former colleague passed the unofficial title of "Plant Lead" to me when he learned of my interest in gardening. Gardening and planting are so peaceful, and it calms me. It's fun to get to do that at home and at work.
Q:?Tell us about a coworker who has gone above and beyond to represent the Skirball in their work.
A:?Noah's Ark and Family Programs Coordinator Karla Barron continues to be a person who has all of the answers in the?Education Department. She consistently goes above and beyond, and we are so lucky to work with her.

About Skirballer Spotlights
Our institution is more than just a workplace—it's a community where each team member plays a vital role in bringing the Skirball's mission and values to life, and creating memorable experiences for all who walk through our doors. As a loving tribute to our original benefactors, Jack and Audrey Skirball, and because of the Skirballs' dedication to education and cultural exchange, we proudly call ourselves "Skirballers."
We regularly spotlight one of these Skirballers, showcasing their unique talents, passions, and contributions to our community. Through these introductions, we invite you to get to know the people who make working here truly something special.
