Thank you, friends and colleagues, for following my new page. I have started a new chapter freelancing for US and European nonprofit organizations. Now based in Paris, I am providing grant-writing and strategic-planning help remotely. I found a great shared office space near my apartment in Vincennes and am available for meetings generally between 8am and 12noon EDT. Coming soon, Skipjack Pictures! 22 April?2024 marked the start of the online session of the orientation programme for Enhancing Capacities in Ukraine for Cultural Heritage First Aid and Recovery Planning, ICCROM's newest capacity development initiative supported by the Commission's Directorate General for Education, Youth, Culture and Sport and the Creative Europe Programme. This training is being conducted in close coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine (MCIP), the Maidan Museum, the Agency for Cultural Resilience (ACURE) and the Heritage Emergency Rescue Foundation (HERI). This training, based on ICCROM's field-tested and codified methodology on first aid to cultural heritage in times of crisis, aims to prepare Ukraine's first national team of cultural first aiders, who can safeguard heritage in times of crisis. Recognizing the urgent need to protect Ukraine's heritage, ICCROM is committed to enhancing capacity-building initiatives through its First Aid and Resilience for Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis Programme. Since April 2022, ICCROM, alongside its various partners, has initiated three capacity development projects to train cultural first aiders, establish risk maps, and conduct damage assessments for tangible and intangible heritage. So far, over 300 professionals from eight oblasts have been trained. The training follows a field-tested methodology codified into a handbook and toolkit, offering participants the chance to join a global network of cultural first-aiders spanning 120 countries. When planning the annual budget, be sure that you include staff and time for fundraising. If you have someone assigned to work on grants and raising individual gifts, be sure that they are fully supported. Make sure that they have the training they need and all of the information they need from colleagues. It pays off short-term and longterm.
