At 18 years old, Mario Esparza has gone from working in fast food to becoming a full-time Production Technician at Genie . Mario is part of Genie's first youth apprenticeship cohort through AJAC | Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships and received additional support from SkillSource. “SkillSource is a great option when you need help getting up on your feet,” Mario shared. “They helped me with work-related clothing and transportation, which made starting my apprenticeship at Genie comfortable." Upon completing his apprenticeship, he’ll earn a Production Technician certificate and become a full-time team member with benefits and potential pay increases. Sandra is a single mom of two and was looking for employment; more than a job, she wanted to find a career. She was interested in an Administrative Assistant position with New Hope, whose mission and service appealed to her, but she needed some job-specific skills. New Hope collaborated with SkillSource to create an on-the-job training contract for Sandra, and she has now completed her training and is employed full time with New Hope. What a great match. Registered apprenticeships are where earning and learning go hand in hand. As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re highlighting Ayden Oseguera, a young adult who found his career path through a Computer Tech 1 Apprenticeship at SkillSource. “I love working here. It’s a learner’s playground,” says Ayden. Over the next two years, Ayden will complete 2,000 hours of hands-on-training with his mentor, gaining real world experience while earning a wage on a practical pathway to a career in computer technology. Community Reinvestment at Work: Wenatchee gets a new coffee drive-through! The Crêpe House used a small business investment grant through the Washington State Department of Commerce to add a drive-through window to their restaurant on S. Wenatchee Ave. The expansion brings more options to morning commuters, and The Crepe House is actively hiring baristas to meet the increase in capacity. The drive-through opens at 5 am with espresso drinks, small bites, and locally roasted drip coffee from Blue Star Coffee Roasters.
