In 2024, metro Phoenix landlords filed a staggering 87,197 evictions, breaking the previous record set in 2005. For many, eviction isn’t just a setback—it’s a barrier to future housing and a fast track to homelessness. With 55% of Valley renters cost-burdened, too many are one crisis away from losing their homes. At St. Joseph the Worker, we understand the ripple effects of housing instability—and we’re doing something about it. As one of Arizona’s leading workforce organizations, we’re breaking the cycle of poverty through employment-focused solutions. By addressing the root causes—like underemployment and limited access to housing and transportation—we help people reclaim stability, one job at a time. Through innovative programs like Employment Without Barriers, Workforce Villages and Workforce Housing and Training (WHaT), we’ve helped over 7,000 clients in 2024 alone achieve self-sufficiency. Our Workforce Villages program, for example, costs less than half of traditional shelters and delivers nearly double the success rate in helping people transition to permanent stability.
