Welcome to MA’s Officer Corner, a new segment on our LinkedIn, where we will be shining the spotlight on an officer and their professional growth and development during their time in the Marketing Association.? This week, we have Timothy Pak, who started his time in MA five semesters ago in our Events Committee. He continued on to serve as our Fundraising Director, Co-Mentorship Director, and is now one of our Co-Multimedia Directors! As Timothy wraps up his time in MA, here’s what he has learned and his takeaways moving forward. ?? How has your time serving as an MA officer helped your professional development and skills? ?? “I would say being on the officer board has really taught me the important skills and knowledge of working in a team, specifically in a business setting. I’ve always had experience dealing with teams in a sports setting, but being on this board taught me the small little intricacies people have. More importantly, it’s allowed me to understand what I bring to the table in terms of skills. My time here as a leader in this club has made me more confident in myself.” What is the biggest change you’ve seen in yourself over your time in MA? ?? “I easily have to say before I wasn’t super confident in myself. It’s been rewarding to see the growth in myself and the person I’ve become today. Looking back at the person I was when I first joined, sometimes I don’t even recognize myself in a sense because I’ve been able to grow into the person that I wanted to be. The people that I’ve met along the way that have invested time and effort in me, I couldn’t have done it without them and that’s one of the biggest differences in my life as well. Lastly, my advice to people in this club is to not be afraid about what you possibly can be and allow yourself to reach those heights because you never know what you can become. Belief in yourself goes a long way.” What’s your favorite MA memory? ???? “The smiles and happiness I’ve brought to the people I’ve met along the way. I’ve been told throughout my journey in this club that I had a very unique energy and it was one that attracted and inspired people. That’s really what fueled me in this journey because it meant the world to me and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been presented with. At the end of the day, I hope the memories I made for other people meant as much to them as it did to me.” Thank you Timothy for sharing your insights into your MA journey and how it has helped you grow professionally and personally! Stay tuned to hear more from the rest of our amazing officer board!

A round of applause for our first workshop of the semester! ?? Thank you to our amazing speakers: Elijah Cruz, Hannah Ahearn, and Giavanna Vega for providing our members with valuable insights on polishing their resumes and how to make theirs stand out in today’s job market. Our members were also able to receive personalized help and feedback on their resumes from our officer board alongside our speakers. Here are a few key takeaways from our speakers! ? Simple and clean is best when it comes to resumes and shouldn’t be more than a page long. Unless tailored for a specific creative position, it’s best to avoid too many graphics or colors.??? ? Make the experiences that you have relevant to the position and ensure the experience is showing off your skills. Campus involvement, class projects, and leadership positions can all be used to demonstrate soft skills.????????? ? Don’t overlook the small details on your resume. Sometimes the difference between resumes can be between small grammatical errors, spacing, or periods. The structure should always be consistent.??? ? Tailoring a resume to the position can set you above your competitors, by showing you care and are interested in the position. It can make a difference when you go that extra step to do research into the company and focus on the job description.??? ? Take time to curate your resume and don’t throw it together on a whim. Don’t diminish your experiences because everything you do now matters in your future.??? We hope everyone was able to take something away from this workshop on how to improve their resumes for applications! We can’t wait to see you at the rest of our workshops this semester for more career and professional help! ??
