2 in 3 applicants to our Homeless Response Worker Wellbeing Fund earn less than $50K a year. Our report, “The Wellbeing of LA's Homeless Response Workers,” provides a revealing glimpse into the challenges faced by those on the front lines of addressing homelessness in our region. With over 5,400 workers applying for assistance - representing about two-thirds of the sector's workforce - this data paints a picture of the financial struggles many in this field face. Key stats: - The overwhelming response to our Wellbeing Fund: 5,430 people applied for nearly $32 million in total funding requests - Black and Latinx workers, who make up 78% of applicants, are most likely to earn below living wages - Half of the applicants have worked in the sector for five years or less These dedicated professionals, tasked with solving one of our region’s most pressing issues, are themselves struggling with financial insecurity and burnout. The implications for both workers and those they serve are profound. But there's hope. The report outlines crucial steps towards creating a more sustainable and equitable workforce, including: - Full cost funding with living wages and cost of living adjustments - Addressing racial justice in the workforce As policymakers and leaders in the homeless response sector, we have a responsibility to act.
