Plenty of other clinical news this week; regulatory, readouts and plans amongst real promise coming out of the State of Texas. With more companies solely focusing on programs in the clinic and less putting an onus on R&D, MD Clinicians/Neurologists with ClinDev industry experience are becoming more widely demanded and less widely available. That being said, here is some information about a few of the exceptional individuals I’m working with in this space: ?? ????????????: board certified neurologist, early phase has been their primary focus but experience within late phase as well. Heavy focus on AD with good industry experience to match but exposure to other indications too. Wants to remain East Coast but happy to travel regularly and open to contract or FTE ?? ??????????????????????: board certified neurologist, good Phase 1-3 experience within industry. Focus primarily on AD but some other neurodegenerative diseases as well. Willing to relocate (EU or US) for an FTE role but open to contract in the EU too ?? ??????????????: psychiatry board certified, Phase 1-2 expertise. Experience across a wide range of psychiatry indications. Open to relocating (EU or US) for an FTE role ?? ????????????: board certified neurologist and still runs own clinic 1 day per week. Sub-speciality in PD with 5 years industry experience across Phase 2-3. Open to relocating (EU or US) for FTE role ?? ?????? ????????: neurologist with deep industry experience across all phases. Do you consider picking a specialist who’s embedded in your therapeutic area when selecting your preferred recruitment partner? Take a Clinical Development MD Lead in Alzheimer’s as an example. It’s very possible for any headhunter to do a keyword search: “clinician”, “Medical Director”, “drug development”, “clinical development”, schedule a call with those who match the keywords and if they’re suitable, present that person/those people??... But headhunting is about more than that. Headhunting is knowing your industry inside and out; knowing each company, knowing a company's competitors, being connected with those people (and not just a LinkedIn connection but a genuine connection with those people) etc. And what about those people who haven’t even got a LinkedIn profile, or someone who could be perfect for the role, is ClinDev through and through but they’re missing “clinical development” on their LinkedIn so they don’t flag up on the keyword search. What about when it comes to screening those people? It’s easier to make an informed judgement when you know a person, know what they’re looking for, what type of environment they will match, what science they’re looking for etc. rather than just having a one, 30-minute Teams call with them and hoping it’s a match (??!) Sure, you might still get the role filled but you might be missing the best in class. What potential culture match have you missed out on that you might regret later down the line when you need to be hiring for the same position in 6-12 months? Of course, there’s more to consider than just picking someone in your TA area; reputation, personal chemistry/rapport, recruitment approach etc. but in my opinion it’s a great start point.
