St. Joseph's Children's Hospital Foundation is grateful to announce that Scott and Kathy Fink, a prominent Tampa family with ties across Tampa Bay, have given $5 million to advance children's health care in West Central Florida. "As philanthropists, my wife and I believe there's simply no greater impact we can make than to invest in a child's life," said Scott. "It is an investment in family, community and an entire region." Inspired by the health care experience of the Finks' youngest son, their gift will help support the construction of a new, dedicated children's hospital facility to open in 2030 as Pagidipati Children's Hospital at St. Joseph's. Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence! ?? This past Saturday, hundreds gathered to honor St. Joseph's Women's Hospital's 50th birthday with a day full of joy, memories, and community spirit. The hospital, originally known as Women's Memorial Hospital and later Humana Women's Hospital, first opened its doors in the fall of 1974 and was the only dedicated women's hospital in the Southeast at the time. And now, five decades later, the hospital serves as a beacon of hope, caring for women and welcoming new life in Tampa Bay. The event featured fun activities like face painting, balloon art, photo stations, and games, plus giveaways and chair massages. Our guests enjoyed healthy treats, 50th birthday cupcakes, and even got a look at one of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital's Pediatric Transport Ambulances. It was an incredible day of connection and celebration. A special thank you to Sarah Naumowich, President of St. Joseph's Women's and Children's Hospitals, for kicking off the event, and to Kelly Ring and Anne Kutchmire, who shared inspiring stories of dedication and patient care. Anne, a retired nurse who served for 37 years, embodies the compassionate care that has defined our hospital for half a century. St. Joseph's Hospitals Foundation recently hosted our annual Retired Physicians Luncheon, a heartfelt gathering to honor the incredible dedication and service of our retired medical staff. This year, 32 esteemed retired neonatologists, surgeons, ER doctors, and other specialists joined us, collectively representing an astounding 1,133 years of service to St. Joseph's Hospitals. A special thanks to Phil Minden, President of St. Joseph's Hospital, for providing an informative update on the hospital's progress as we celebrate St. Joseph's Hospitals' 90th anniversary, and to Dr. Samir Akach, vice president and chief medical officer for St. Joseph's Hospital, who gave a quality update. We were privileged to recognize distinguished physicians, including Dr. Robert Isbell, Dr. Lee Kirkman, Dr. Don Mellman, Dr. Daniel Plasencia, and Dr. Michael Wasylik, for their enduring contributions. The luncheon is a reminder of the legacy of excellence and compassion that continues to guide our mission. We are deeply grateful to our retired medical community for their unwavering commitment and years of service.

Last week, the Philanthropic Women of St. Joseph's got together for their annual celebration reception to learn how their funding of a SpyFi system and two ultrasounds have helped accelerate results and advance outcomes for patients. Dr. Deepa Bhat spoke about how their $395,000 grant has helped in general surgeries, breast surgeries, plastic surgeries, surgical oncology patients, and more throughout the Tampa Bay area. Thousands of books, countless moments of bonding! ?? Last month, BayCare's NICUs participated in the National NICU Read-a-Thon, and we are thrilled to share that St. Joseph's Women's Hospital took #1 in the Medium NICU category and placed #12 overall among more than 150 hospitals nationwide! The 10-day event, led by Babies with Books, encouraged reading to neonatal patients, aiding their brain development, language skills, and reducing stress. At St. Joseph's Children's and Women's Hospitals, caregivers, hospital leaders, and special guests read over 3,100 books to our tiniest patients, helping them grow stronger with every story. We're proud to be part of a community dedicated to giving these newborns the best start in life. ????

Happy Halloween! ???? Yesterday, the halls of St. Joseph's Children's Hospital transformed into a "spooktacular" trick-or-treat parade for our young patients. This yearly tradition allows patients to participate in trick-or-treating without leaving the hospital during their care. Thank you to Spirit Halloween?and Spirit of Children for providing Halloween costumes to our patients, and for supporting our Child Life department throughout the season, helping make the hospital experience easier and more comfortable for children and their families. ??

This World Stroke Day, we want to recognize that St. Joseph's Hospital is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by DNV Healthcare and awarded as a GTWG - Stroke Gold Plus by the American Heart Association. These recognitions reflect the highest level of competence and quality for the treatment of serious stroke events. Overcoming a stroke is a challenge that many are not prepared for. While historically, the outlook for patients facing strokes and aneurysms has been grim, St. Joseph's Hospital's Stroke & Neuroscience Program has brightened the prognoses, with two of our hospitals being recognized by the American Heart Association for meeting their quality-of-care achievement measures for stroke care. For years, doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute have contributed to clinical trials to address AFib, which causes the heart to beat irregularly and can lead to a stroke. One of those trials led to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the new POLARx FIT cryoballoon catheter- the only FDA-approved stand-alone treatment for patients who have long-standing persistent AFib. We are happy to share that St. Joseph's Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute was the first in Central Florida to perform the procedure.
