The Chamber's Economic Development team of Scott Maynard and Aliyah Meyer spoke to the Associated Press about housing in St. Augustine, as remote workers from around the country make the nation's oldest city their home. From 2018 to 2023, the number of remote workers in St. Johns County tripled — from 8.6% to nearly 24% — and the influx of new residents has put a strain on affordable housing options. The Chamber's Attainable Housing Coalition has been advocating for better housing options for workers in the county, where the median home price has surged to more than $535,000. We helped celebrate this achievement this morning at Kite Day ??at Treaty Oaks Park in St. Augustine, with help from County Commissioner Clay Murphy and Brianna Angulo of the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards, the organization that certifies CACs. With Parks and Rec’s certification, St. Johns County is one step closer to reaching Certified Autism Destination status, indicating to visitors and residents a county-wide commitment to inclusivity for neurodiverse individuals and their families. It was a lighthearted evening of networking and collaboration with our board members and key stakeholders. In true Chamber fashion, the gathering also served as a learning opportunity. Flagler College hosted a fantastic Chamber After Hours as part of their annual Business Week!
