We’re thrilled to welcome Hugo Errazuriz as our new Design Director. With over 20 years of international experience in urban design and architecture, Hugo brings a deep understanding of how urban infrastructure can shape vibrant, people-centered places.? Originally from Santiago, Chile, and from a long line of architects, Hugo studied at UC Berkeley before leading projects across California, Beijing, and Hong Kong. His diverse portfolio spans mixed-use developments, mobility hubs, and public space design, from crafting vibrant urban centers in Asia to reimagining streets and plazas in San Francisco.? Before joining SITELAB, Hugo led large-scale master planning projects globally at AECOM, most recently heading the Urbanism + Planning studio in San Francisco. His experience also includes at leading firms in the U.S. and Chile. Hugo thrives in interdisciplinary collaboration, guiding teams to craft thoughtful and impactful urban spaces.? We are thrilled to collaborate with the San Francisco Unified School District and Berliner Architects on the creation of a visioning document and design guidelines for all of San Francisco’s 120+ public schoolyards. SITELAB recently led and completed a community engagement process with the District and local non-profit partners to brainstorm future opportunities for collaboration and funding. This month, we’ve begun to dig into planting opportunities for each school district based on the city’s notable microclimates. We’re looking forward to kicking off this next design phase with SFUSD and Berliner. #SanFrancisco #SFUSD

An urban street is a platform for the interaction of many things: movement, identity, commerce, and public life. Santa Clara Street serves as the grand boulevard of the South Bay and an identity-defining public space linking Downtown to East San José. Over the last few weeks, we walked, rolled, and rode with City of San José Department of Transportation, VTA, and San Jose Downtown Association along Santa Clara Street —?exploring its past and present. In 2025 we'll be reimagining the corridor's capacity for movement, place, and identity. To succeed, Santa Clara Street will need to be both particular and unifying, both authentic and iconic. The corridor must?respond and connect to the diverse communities and places it passes through, while also retaining its civic presence and vital transportation functions.
