Woman of Color Reproductive Justice Collective

关于我们

The mission of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective is to amplify and strengthen the collective voices of Indigenous women and women of color to ensure reproductive justice through securing human rights. SisterSong is comprised of 80 local, regional and national grassroots organizations in the United States representing five primary ethnic populations/indigenous nations in the United States: Native American/Indigenous, Black/African American, Latina/Puerto Rican, Arab American/Middle Eastern, and Asian/Pacific Islander, as well as white allies and men. The Collective was formed in 1997 to fulfill a need for a national movement by women of color to organize our voices to represent ourselves and our communities. SisterSong educates women of color on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Rights, and works towards the access of health services, information and resources that are culturally and linguistically appropriate through the integration of the disciplines of community organizing, Self-Help and human rights education.

Peace Everyone,? ? I hope that you are all well and taking the time to breathe in the midst of all we are navigating. I am sure we are all aware of the tragic deaths of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller in GA that were reported to be preventable and directly linked to the 6-week abortion ban we have been fighting.? ? Today, SisterSong is activating our Trust Black Women partners and creating an opportunity for Black women leaders, organizers, and Black-led orgs to join the Reproductive Justice movement to demand accountability for the Black women who lost their lives so senselessly.? ? We are holding a Trust Black Women Mass Mobilization call today Thursday, September 19th at 3:00 pm EST.?We are also planning an action to take place on Sept. 28th in Atlanta. Our GA State Coordinator, Danielle, is taking point on this and will have more information on how to get plugged in on the call. Deep appreciation to Black Feminist Future who is also taking point on building an altar for the action. It takes a village, good people.? ? Please spread the word far and wide with your networks. I believe multiple emails are ok at this moment. You will find the RSVP link below. The Zoom link will be sent to the final vetted list by 1 pm today.? ? Today we’re highlighting one of our Black Birthing Bill of Rights?: I see me in my provider. Culturally congruent care matters for Black people. Black providers who have similar cultural experiences may be better able to understand the impacts of racism. This shared lived experience can also serve to build trust between a person and their provider, ultimately improving care. Currently, there is a shortage of Black health care professionals. For example, despite a long history of midwifery in the Black community, less than 2% of the nation’s reported 15,000 midwives are Black. We need more midwives, physicians, and health care providers who understand our experiences as Black people. Learn more about this Black Birthing Bill of Right?, view resources and download this tool now at the link in bio! #NAABB #BlackBirthingBillOfRights #BBBOR #BlackBirthJustice #ReproductiveJustice #BirthAdvocacy

We are excited to announce that Early Bird Registration for the Let's Talk About Sex! conference 2024 is officially open! SisterSong, the National Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, is hosting the nation's largest reproductive justice conference from August 22-25, 2024, in Washington, D.C., and we want you to be a part of it. This year's conference is particularly special as it marks the 30th Anniversary of Reproductive Justice. We believe that it is a critical moment for our movement, and what better place to have LTAS than D.C. - a vibrant, politically strategic city with roots in Black Culture to re-establish our unity, activism, and collective vision. As an early bird registrant, you will receive a discounted registration fee and secure your spot at the conference. You'll also have the opportunity to engage with leaders from across the country, participate in thought-provoking workshops, and connect with a community of like-minded individuals. https://lnkd.in/ef6fPvgn

We know their agenda. Making abortion a crime is just another way for racist police and racist leaders to try to take away our freedom, control us, and cage us. The fight for bodily autonomy and abortion justice is a fight against white supremacy. Join us in our fight - go to https://lnkd.in/e_gjTQrQ to ensure that Reproductive Justice is our lived reality.
