Technology alone does not create success. Envisioning a variety of ways to apply it is where the impact happens. Singularity grad Beth Koigi partnered with Canadian environmental scientist Anastasia Kaschenko and Oxford economist Clare Sewell to create Majik, pronounced “magic." The system runs on solar power, allowing for installation in remote areas. And it works virtually anywhere, including places with relatively low humidity. “If you have air, you can have drinking water,” the group’s website states. The company started by working with NGOs that bring Majik Water devices to communities after natural disasters to provide emergency services. Those function as essential sources of sanitary water for rural hospitals, while the company’s smallest devices can be used in households. Innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about the people who use it. At Singularity, we believe in engaging deeply with the challenges and opportunities technology brings, but even more importantly, in transforming people. This program is a living experiment, constantly evolving based on participant feedback to deliver even more impactful experiences. Every cohort is hand-selected to maximize connection and learning, and while the technologies we explore change, our guiding principle remains constant: looking at the intersection of innovation and its human impact—whether personal, organizational, or societal— to empower leaders to shape a better future for humanity. Thank you to our participants, past and future, for taking on this mission with us. The Executive Program price increases to $15,900 USD in 2025. ?? Apply by December 1, 2024, to lock in the current rate: https://lnkd.in/db34VzZD #ExecutiveProgram #Singularity #Innovation #GlobalImpact #Leadership

Can you tell the difference between human and AI-made poetry? According to a new paper in Nature Scientific Reports, you probably can't. Which of the options below do you think is written by AI: 1 or 2? Moreover, they found general readers tend to prefer poetry written by AI—at least until they are told it is written by a machine. stay curious: https://lnkd.in/e5i6ykPg

In the 2016 science fiction movie Arrival, a linguist is faced with the daunting task of deciphering an alien language. If humanity ended up in such a situation today, our best bet may be to turn to research uncovering how artificial intelligence (AI) develops languages. To simulate how language may evolve, we give AI agents simple tasks that require communication, like a game where one robot must guide another to a specific location on a grid without showing it a map. We provide (almost) no restrictions on what they can say or how—we simply give them the task and let them solve it however they want. Because solving these tasks requires the agents to communicate with each other, we can study how their communication evolves over time to get an idea of how language might evolve. Just as archaeologists piece together ancient languages from fragments, we use patterns in AI conversations to understand their linguistic structure. Sometimes we find surprising similarities to human languages, and other times we discover entirely novel ways of communication. Stay Curious ??

Are we looking at a future of solar-powered humans??? Perhaps not anytime soon, but this research is opening the tantalizing possibility. While it might conjure sci-fi visions of humans with green skin surviving on sunlight alone, the team says the most likely applications are in tissue engineering. Researchers from the University of Tokyo have managed to rewrite evolutionary history. In a recent paper, the team reported they had successfully implanted chloroplasts into hamster cells where they generated energy for at least two days via the photosynthetic electron transport process. After two days, however, the chloroplasts started degrading, and by the fourth day, photosynthesis seemed to have stopped. This is probably due to the animal cells digesting the unfamiliar organelles, but the researchers say genetic tweaks to the animal cells could potentially side-step digestion.
