?La fundadora de la consultora estadounidense Sinfranova LLC y docente en materia de infraestructuras y clima en la Universidad de Harvard, Cristina Contreras Casado, remite a informes del Banco Mundial para aseverar que “la inversión de un dólar en resiliencia frente al clima supone cuatro de beneficio”. Habitual en el asesoramiento a bancos de desarrollo, Contreras advierte que la aproximación al problema en Espa?a no puede ser la que hacen otros países: “Cada uno tiene sus peculiaridades y amenazas”. Pero dice con cierto alivio que “las empresas espa?olas están implementando soluciones de resiliencia en todo el mundo. Su conocimiento en infraestructuras es pionero y tienen la capacidad para lograr un cambio en Espa?a”. Al igual que sus compa?eros I?igo Losada, Valentín Alfaya y Alejandro Jiménez, la ingeniera afincada en Washington aboga por la combinación de infraestructura gris y verde, destacando la experiencia de países como Japón, con sus ciudades esponja, Países Bajos ante la amenaza del mar, o Estados Unidos tras el paso del huracán Sandy en 2012. En Nueva York fue revisado el parque de infraestructura para un periodo de retorno de 100 a?os bajo los nuevos parámetros climáticos. Los cuatro también opinan al unísono sobre la necesidad de?actualizar los sistemas de emergencia?y los códigos de construcción, “basados en condiciones climatológicas de hasta 50 a?os atrás”. En un enfoque integral de las redes, cabe incluso crear sistemas redundantes para asegurar la respuesta. Las infraestructuras, sostienen, no se pueden entender como entes aislados sino interconectados. Estragos como los causados en apenas unas horas por la dana constituyen ya una oportunidad de negocio para las grandes constructoras en todo el planeta. Solo en la UE se cifra en 26.000 millones anuales las pérdidas ocasionadas por fenómenos extremos en la última década, según datos que maneja el Tribunal de Cuentas Europeo. Espa?a, con un impacto de 60.976 millones entre 1980 y 2020, y 16.181 víctimas mortales, es el cuarto Estado de la UE por pérdidas económicas y de vidas, con Alemania, Francia e Italia por delante.

As?#COP16?kicks off in Colombia, we are reminded of the critical importance of responsible infrastructure development in ensuring the conservation of our planet's biodiversity. This coming October, all eyes will be on Cali, the city designated to host COP16. As we approach the world’s foremost meeting dedicated to biodiversity, we are reminded of the urgent call issued at COP15. This summit underscored the critical need to balance human development with preserving our planet’s biodiversity. At the heart of this mission lies the infrastructure that shapes our cities, connects our communities, and drives our economies. Although infrastructure is one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss, it can also play an instrumental role. Besides reducing environmental impacts, infrastructure can contribute to conserving, enhancing, and restoring natural ecosystems. As such, it is becoming increasingly common for different parties to adapt their agendas to integrate biodiversity and environmental conservation into their strategies. For instance, last December, Multilateral Development Banks adopted common principles to track nature-positive finance and quantify their contribution to global agreements, like the Global Biodiversity Framework. Recognizing the importance of creating more sustainable infrastructure projects, at Sinfranova we are committed to empowering individuals and organizations to become catalysts for positive change. To this end, we recently facilitated a masterclass in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy Peru to explore the relationship between infrastructure and international agreements relevant to environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation.
