Last week, I said it: Revenue is not a marketing KPI. A week later? The post is still making waves— 30K+ impressions, endless shares, and a comment section that won’t quit. I guess that means it went viral? (Linked in the comments if you are curious). And for good reason. Because too many marketing leaders are tired of being held to the wrong metrics. So let me say it again: Marketing can be a driver of revenue. But its sole function is not to drive revenue. It’s to drive demand. ?? Marketing creates awareness. Because you can’t sell to people who don’t know you exist. ?? Marketing nurtures buyers. Because no one drops $50K on a B2B product after seeing one ad. ?? Marketing generates demand. Because leads don’t magically appear in a pipeline without strategic effort. Yet somehow, we’re still defending our role. It's exhausting. CMOs and marketing leaders: How do we shift this conversation? What’s the KPI conversation that actually needs to happen in leadership rooms? PS: Revenue is a business goal, not a marketing KPI.
