Last week, members of our esteemed advisory board, Mary Rose McCaffrey, Charles Phalen and Tony Delgado, Jr. attended the Gemini Industries Defense Intelligence Speaker Series held at the Texas A&M University - The Bush School of Government and Public Service. The fireside chat featured a moderated discussion by The Honorable Harry Coker Jr., Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce and former Office of the National Cyber Director, The White House, along with Professor Gregory Vogel, Director of the school’s Intelligence Studies Program and former Deputy Director of Operations at the Central Intelligence Agency. The gentlemen engaged in an outstanding dialog focusing on leadership and the value of government service in military, federal, and state roles.?Mr. Coker offered several significant lessons he learned along the journey and both speakers encouraged the students to pursue challenges in the national and economic security arenas that this country will need to address in in the next decade.?It was clear by the attendees’ questions and the post-presentation conversations that these messages were well received. The Warrior Foundation Freedom Station commemorated the official grand opening of the beautifully appointed Freedom Station III and their 20th anniversary last week. A stunning vocalist and a lineup of motivational speakers were included at the event to recognize and honor our nations Warriors and celebrate the new station. Twenty years ago, Sandra Lehmkuhler founded the charity because she thought we should do better for our service members who suffered critical injuries. It all started by holding a fundraiser to buy Norelco razors, which she learned our amputees needed who had trouble shaving. Today, the organization has grown to three stations with 29 transitional housing cottages, and a wide range of services, including adaptive sports, outdoor therapy, mentoring and more. They announced at the event that the Freedom Station model is being presented in Sacramento with the goal of modeling it nationwide. What a remarkable legacy Sandy Lehmkuhler has created!
