With maternal mortality rates and staffing shortages on the rise, so is the need to better support prenatal and postpartum patients. One area that is often overlooked yet causes extreme stress and anxiety for families is baby feeding. Enter SimpliFed: A one-of-its kind, virtual maternal platform for lactation and baby feeding support. At SimpliFed we encourage patients to engage with us early and often, in most cases starting at 28 weeks. By offering 6 or more virtual 1:1 appointments with our providers as well as 24/7 access to our care navigators or “allies” for ongoing support, each family is delivered a tailored care package based on their needs. And it’s because of the emphasis on quality care, that we’ve seen impressive results: -97%?of our parents say they feel less stressed after meeting with our providers -87% of our patients feed with breastmilk for at least 3 months (national average is 69%) -2.6% ER utilization rate (national average is 7.6%) -96% patient satisfaction score (NPS) for our providers -2% appointment no show rate Want to see how we do it? https://lnkd.in/gHG5CzUE

The United States Preventative Services Task Force recently asked for public comments on their latest update. They left breastfeeding support at a B, stating there was adequate evidence that support and interventions help with breastfeeding rates and duration. Of course we agree. But there were a few parts of the study and report that we think are important to discuss. 1. The caregiver’s mental and physical health related to breastfeeding. There are studies that report sudden and unexpected weaning can be a trigger for perinatal anxiety and mood disorders 2. The longitudinal nature of breastfeeding support with access to lactation consultants during significant milestones that allows us to screen and connect to care quickly and efficiently. We influence broader maternal health outcomes and also support through massive transitions like returning to work – a huge reason why caregivers stop breastfeeding 3. Early education and prenatal support. At SimpliFed we see a much bigger adoption rate when families are prepared 4. A lactation consultant’s viewpoint as the providers through pregnancy and postpartum highs and lows. We see our patients through it all, and because of that can uniquely care for them. Take a look at the report here and let us know what you think: https://lnkd.in/gY_zhBd4

March of Dimes latest report gives the US a D+ grade for preterm birth. Most interesting to us were these preterm birth rates: 23% of pregnant persons with hypertension 28% of pregnant persons with diabetes But it doesn't have to be this way! We've seen time and time again, consistent, preventative care can help combat these growing comorbidities. Even more so, layering in virtual options since our maternity care deserts are growing at an equally alarming rate.
The 2024 March of Dimes Report Card reveals for the third consecutive year, the US earned a D+ grade for preterm birth. In addition to the US preterm birth rate remaining historically high at 10.4%, we continue to see significant disparities among racial and ethnic groups. In 2023, more than 370,000 babies were born preterm (1 in 10) and approximately one third of the largest cities in the US received an F for preterm birth. View the report at https://lnkd.in/dY5CzrGh Having a healthy pregnancy starts before a person is pregnant. Many risk factors for preterm birth are preventable and a person’s overall health is a strong determinant of their pregnancy health outcomes. This year’s report reveals many risk factors for preterm birth are not improving, and many pregnant people still are not receiving adequate prenatal care. Disparities continue to deepen for communities of color. The US must prioritize the health of its moms and babies. We can all make a profound impact for today and future generations by investing in our communities, advocating for policy change, and raising funds for critical research and programs.

A new blood test that can predict preterm birth is a massive innovative win for maternal health. It also is more proof that understanding, identifying?and?monitoring?rising risk patients?is key to healthy, happy outcomes. By focusing on preventative services, we all win. We were so excited to read more about PreTRM's blood test. Check out the TIME piece below?? https://lnkd.in/gcZJJDWA

Take a listen as our CEO Andrea Ippolito shares how her experience building a family helped to shape how (and why!) she built her company. Thanks The Health Care Blog!
Andrea Ippolito has combined her personal experience as a mum struggling with breast feeding, and her professional career as an entrepreneur and engineer at athenahealth building integrations with EMRs. She's now the CEO of SimpliFed which has built a network of lactation consultants, and much more, and has placed it in the workflow of that most important part of health care -- pre and post partum. How did she do it and what's it like? She told and showed Matthew Holt. https://lnkd.in/gK36ANFW

Ever wonder how SimpliFed works with providers and partners to increase engagement and support maternal health outcomes? We recently sat down with Dr. Quratulain Zeeshan to discuss how implementing virtual care in her practice has significantly helped breastfeeding rates, mental health screenings and the overall health of some very hard to reach patients. #virtualcare #maternalhealth https://lnkd.in/gb53iRgJ
