With maternal mortality rates and staffing shortages on the rise, so is the need to better support prenatal and postpartum patients. One area that is often overlooked yet causes extreme stress and anxiety for families is baby feeding. Enter SimpliFed: A one-of-its kind, virtual maternal platform for lactation and baby feeding support. At SimpliFed we encourage patients to engage with us early and often, in most cases starting at 28 weeks. By offering 6 or more virtual 1:1 appointments with our providers as well as 24/7 access to our care navigators or “allies” for ongoing support, each family is delivered a tailored care package based on their needs. And it’s because of the emphasis on quality care, that we’ve seen impressive results: -97%?of our parents say they feel less stressed after meeting with our providers -87% of our patients feed with breastmilk for at least 3 months (national average is 69%) -2.6% ER utilization rate (national average is 7.6%) -96% patient satisfaction score (NPS) for our providers -2% appointment no show rate Want to see how we do it? https://lnkd.in/gHG5CzUE

Our CEO Andrea Ippolito was just at the Rock Health Summit in California accepting her Top 50 in Digital Health award! And she left with some important insights. Take a read below?? And congratulations again to our fearless leader!
While on my flight back from the Rock Health Summit in California, I wanted to share some of my favorite insights from the jam-packed panels of clinicians, leaders, and investors in the healthcare arena. Some are definitely more on the controversial side - greatly appreciated the honesty and direct conversations. We need SO much more of this in healthcare! My main takeaways: ?? Only a handful of companies will be successful in healthcare AI. Panelists predicted that whoever works with healthcare systems versus plans will take the cake. Systems hold the debt, and they need help driving down costs.? ?? Longevity is definitely at the height of the hype cycle right now– where it feels like everyone is talking about how to live to >100. However, businesses within the longevity category will not realize the full market opportunity until the kid in Detroit with poor water quality can have that same goal. ?? I heard lots of discussion about the new mental health parity policy surrounding reimbursement. While exciting and overdue, we also need to ensure quality of care is maintained because low quality mental health care is dangerous and can have lasting, damaging impacts.? ?? Food as medicine will not have sustainability as a category unless we make healthy foods as easy as a Chick Fil A drive through. ?? Investment firms like HopeLabs are evaluating child mental health tech solutions with kids (hooray for user feedback! Lots of comments like "suss" being thrown around!) to combat the national crisis and incorporating feedback. We have to meet kiddos where they are at and make it as engaging as TikTok. ?? To support caregivers, we need a portfolio of tools, like continued investment from VC, policy tools from state and federal government stakeholders, supportive infrastructure from employers to give flexibility, and more. ?? The White House Conference on Hunger and Nutrition from 2022 had federal entities like HHS, USDA/WIC present, but what about the Department of Commerce/SBA? We live in a capitalistic society and need to develop sustainable businesses in the arena to combat food and hunger insecurities. ?? Other attendees - what were your takeaways? Would love to hear your thoughts! Also THANK YOU to Rock Health for the incredible honor of being a Top 50 in Digital Health Award winner!! My younger self of the early 2010s would have been beside herself because have been such a fan of Rock Health for over a decade! https://lnkd.in/gDAZTC5c

At SimpliFed we see the harmful impacts of stress and exhaustion on new parents every single day. That's why we work to extend each in-house clinician's reach and bring care directly to their patients. And our data shows this works. Consistent, collaborative, culturally competent care will and DOES make a difference. The Surgeon General's notice calls on systems to prioritize prevention and partner with organizations that can focus on wrap-around care. The time is now!
We did not need a Surgeon General notice to tell us that parents are stressed. At SimpliFed we see this EVERY SINGLE DAY with our patients. We’re also working parents, breastfeeding or baby feeding parents, postpartum, toddler or grown kid parents (coughs - living the dream with the back-to-school transition right now!). But perhaps most importantly our team sees this as clinicians. Clinicians that day in and day out see the harmful impacts of overwhelming stress but also the amazing outcomes when families are reached out to and cared for.?They are clinicians that work with health systems and health plans to extend their reach, open up access and meet stressed, on-the-brink parents every single day. The main takeaways from the Surgeon General's notice on what our health systems of what can and should do: ?? Prioritize preventative care ? Screen parents and caregivers ?? Partner with community organizations that provide support and resources ?? Provider additional support for high risk patients ?? Support interdisciplinary partnerships between primary care and mental health professionals The time is now. It’s time to think outside the box, prioritize different ways for families to access care. Time for virtual care that meets families exactly where they’re at. Time for access to FREE postpartum care and monitoring covered by insurance. Together we can begin to make a difference.
Opinion | Surgeon General: Parents Are at Their Wits’ End. We Can Do Better.

Black women are less likely to both initiate and continue breastfeeding for so many reasons. Black breastfeeding week was created to highlight stories, to close the divide and bring to light a Black mother’s struggles. But there is still so much work to do. This #blackbreastfeedingweek it’s important for us to understand racial bias still plays such a big role in how women are treated and viewed. Especially postpartum. In fact, compared to others, Black mothers are: ? More likely to be offered formula in the hospital ? Less likely to receive adequate support or education around breastfeeding benefits ? More likely to have inflexible working schedules making breastfeeding much more difficult It’s time for a change. Forbes takes a look in to why Black women are the least likely to breastfeed here: https://lnkd.in/gupCAwVs
