Thrilled to have our co-founder share his thoughts with global leadership on the existing barriers for literacy, young changemakers, and how to create open spaces for conversations to drive solution-building at the nation-scale!
It was surreal taking the stage as an elected nominee of the cohort to address world leaders including Prime Ministers, Presidents, Ambassadors, and developmental agency leadership at the United Nations, The World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and others, alongside my co panelists. Incredibly grateful for the intense and amazing week-long Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders program put together by the organizers at the Policy Center for the New South led by Fadila Filali with Majda Belkheiri and Majda Lazaar who curated an exceptional program for us. A huge thanks to the show of confidence from the 41 emerging leaders across 22 countries working to drive policy change across Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia, for the opportunity to represent their voices! Most importantly though, props to Dhara Mungra and the SimPPL team for our work rebuilding trust on the social internet, across 6 countries (and counting!) that has taught me about global developmental issues. And a thanks to my mentors and advisors at Questrom School of Business, Boston University (Marshall Van Alstyne and Nina Ma?ar (Mazar)) and MIT Sloan School of Management. My message: 1. Let’s be more accepting of our own limitations and make space for those who may contribute alternate expertise, especially those from the younger generation who have demonstrated outsized potential in their field. 2. The world is moving fast and it’s difficult to keep up! Ask yourself how often you update your own perspective by making space for others to challenge you—especially others from your own teams. Set an example for others to follow! 3. Allow for uncertainty in conversations so that the public starts to acknowledge limitations and rebuild trust in democratic institutions instead of getting carried away by ideologues and misinformation. Facts almost always evolve and what is true today may not remain true tomorrow. There’s no technology that guarantees you truthful answers 100% of the time because even such technology relies on third parties and the internet to draw its inference. We had barely a few hours to prepare but the experience of speaking directly to those in power to share how they can work with us “emerging†leaders was extremely gratifying especially because every single person stayed in that room to hear from us even for this very last session in the conference! Namaste, and looking forward to future conversations :)

We had an exciting past week working with the team at Nest Center 4 Journalism Innovation and Development in Mongolia, delivering a 2-day workshop on how to use social listening and AI tools to responsibly accelerate their fact-checking efforts. In turn, they will advance disinformation research and train Mongolian civil society orgs. over the next 18 months, with support from DW Akademie whom we thank for their continued engagement! We covered some important topics during this session: 1. Design and Visualization: Before you think about data and models, what are the key audiences you serve? 2. Scaling up Data Analysis: What happens when your CSV files of raw data are >8 GB and need to be cleaned and processed? 3. Web-scale Data Collection: How to gather public information from online platforms 4. Toxicity, Sentiment Analysis, and advanced language understanding: What are the insights you can get using AI tools and how to measure the uncertainty of those insights? 5. Case Study of Telegram Network Monitoring and Analysis Kudos to the team that made this happen in a short turnaround time: Dhara Mungra Uday Sharma Devang Shah Arpit Sharma Atmik Shetty Dhvani Shah Hriday Ranka Krisha Mehta Aradhya Sakalley with support from Gautam Malpani and Swapneel Mehta And a huge thanks to DW Akademie (Kilian Schütze-Alinsky) and Nest Center 4 Journalism Innovation and Development for elevating this work to have global impact for communities that need it most!
