"There’s a lot of 'see-I-was-right-ness' in Silverstein’s narrative, and often he was. It’s how he got through a long and bruising process with undimmed self-confidence and faith in his own vision. “I said, ‘Where do these people get all this certainty that we’re going to fail?’ I said to myself, ‘Stop listening to them. It’s white noise. It’s meaningless.’” To him, the evidence that stubbornness paid off lies in the fact that, even though he eventually had to give up control of One World Trade, the entire site is now nearly complete." We're sending a warm #CenterCity welcome to Cake & Joe! The gourmet cake and coffee business has just opened their third location in Philadelphia inside 1735 Market St. A women-owned business, Cake & Joe was launched in Philadelphia in 2020 by Sarah Qi and Trista Tang, who became best friends growing up in Beijing. “Our dream was to start a business together,” said Sarah Qi. “We are delighted to bring our delicious offerings, artistic desserts, and premium coffee service to 1735 Market Street.” Cake & Joe will offer breakfast and lunch daily as well as catering. The company’s other locations are in #Pennsport and #Fishtown. “We’re thrilled to see continued activation of the retail component at 1735 Market Street,” said Keith A. Cody, SVP of Commercial Leasing at Silverstein Properties. “Cake & Joe will further enhance the building offerings of world-class amenities and immediate access to the vibrant culture of downtown Philadelphia."

We recently enjoyed a wonderful evening on the 40th floor of 7 World Trade Center with the Crain's New York Business #NetworkingForNotables event. Silverstein COO Dino Fusco remarked: "Over the last 23 years, as Larry and his team were rebuilding the WTC, this entire neighborhood has significantly transformed to everyone's benefit." Larry Silverstein was the featured speaker for the night's fireside chat, and he shared valuable insights and stories of perseverance, including how "sink or swim" has a deeper meaning than you might think!

From having the foresight to see the potential in an area, to utilizing modern construction techniques to keep things modern & fresh, Larry Silverstein has been shaping the skyline of the city he loves for decades. Check out this great new article from W42ST that takes a deep dive into Mr. Silverstein's passion for taking on the challenges of developing in #HellsKitchen. “The site was basically an empty parking lot with piles of asphalt,” he remembered. “But I saw the potential. It was only three or four blocks from Times Square and right near the 42nd Street crosstown bus. People could walk if they had to, or hop on the bus — it was close enough to be viable.” Although others questioned his decision to build “that far west,” Silverstein remained convinced of the location’s future value: “This could be a terrific location some day,” he thought at the time, 40 years ago." But for Larry, the gambles were worth it. "In NYC, you don't get anywhere by playing it safe." And that all makes sense for the man with an enduring passion for the city he loves: “This city has been my life." Link below for more info: https://lnkd.in/g2ZWZZUz
