Welcome to Day 48 of my 50 day posting journey to Election Day! I have received lots of nervous calls, texts and emails about the race. The most common anxiety I have heard is about the unAmerican rhetoric coming from Trump and the calls for violence. This reminded me of the issue of gun safety and how Kamala Harris champions policies that will make us all safer. Kamala Harris has advocated for various gun safety and gun control policies that have broad support due to the growing desire among Americans to address gun violence and improve public safety. 1. Universal Background Checks ??????????Policy: Harris supports universal background checks on all gun sales, closing loopholes that currently allow private sellers to transfer guns without background checks. ??????????Why It’s Popular: A majority of Americans support universal background checks as a common-sense measure to keep guns out of the hands of people who may pose a risk to public safety. This policy is seen as a straightforward way to prevent individuals with criminal records or mental health issues from obtaining firearms. 2. Welcome to my posting journey to Election Day. There are 6 days to Election Day!! Yesterday - Kamala Harris spoke to a crowd of over 75,000 people at the Ellipse. She forcefully argued that Americans do not want to be ruled by a “petty tyrant”. I think all Americans want to vote for a candidate who pledges to represent and govern all Americans as Harris has pledged to do throughout her campaign. So today - I am focused on why Trump is a petty tyrant. Describing someone as a “petty tyrant” implies that they exercise power in a way that’s more focused on personal gain, revenge, or showing dominance, rather than effective leadership. Here are some commonly cited actions and behaviors often described as “petty” in the context of Donald Trump’s leadership style: 1. Use of Personal Insults and Name-Calling: Trump often resorted to personal insults and derogatory nicknames for both political opponents and critics. This included calling people like Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary” or referring to others as “low-energy” or “sleepy.” This kind of behavior, rather than addressing policy or governance, is often considered unprofessional and petty, particularly for a public leader. 2. Retaliation Against Critics: Trump frequently engaged in public feuds with those who criticized him, often using his platform to attack or belittle them. For example, he was known to speak out against members of his own party who didn’t support his actions or agenda, like Senator John McCain. 3. Firing Officials Who Disagreed with Him: Many officials in Trump’s administration were dismissed or pressured to resign after clashing with him or expressing dissent. Here are three reasons that Kamala Harris is a strong candidate - and really the only candidate for President - on issues of racial harmony and diversity: 1. Personal Background and Representation: Kamala Harris, as the first woman of both Black and South Asian descent to serve as Vice President, brings a unique perspective on diversity. Her background often resonates with individuals from various racial and ethnic backgrounds who may feel underrepresented. Her presence in such a high office is seen by many as a testament to America’s growing diversity and an affirmation of inclusion. 2. Policy Focus on Equity: Harris has a legislative and executive history of supporting policies aimed at reducing racial inequities. Her work has included advocating for criminal justice reform, voting rights protections, and economic initiatives to address disparities affecting communities of color. Day 44 Election Day journey bonus post - given the importance of the gender gap among men - I wanted to also highlight why Trump’s polices are simply awful for men in particular. “Concepts of a Plan” don’t work! 1. Healthcare and Rising Costs ??????????Lack of Affordable Healthcare Options: Trump’s efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA) without providing a comprehensive replacement have led to uncertainty in healthcare, disproportionately impacting men in jobs without insurance benefits. Many men, particularly in working-class communities, rely on accessible healthcare for managing chronic conditions, mental health, and injury-related issues. ??????????High Costs of Prescription Drugs: This affects men, especially those dealing with common but expensive treatments, as high costs often lead to skipping medication or avoiding doctor visits. 2. Failure to Support Working-Class Jobs ??????????Job Loss in Manufacturing and Trade Sectors: Despite promises to revitalize American manufacturing, Trump’s trade policies and tariffs led to job losses in certain manufacturing sectors, impacting men and working-class communities that rely on these jobs. Today - I’m going to go back a little farther - to the founding of our nation. Here is why our Founding Fathers would choose Kamala Harris: 1. Commitment to Constitutional Norms: Kamala Harris, as a former Attorney General and current Vice President, often emphasizes the importance of the rule of law and adherence to constitutional norms. The Founding Fathers were deeply invested in establishing a balanced government with checks and balances to prevent authoritarian tendencies. Harris’s legal background and her stated respect for the Constitution align with the Founders’ emphasis on safeguarding democracy and the rule of law. 2.
