Starting today, February 28 and over the next several months, consumers across the nation are participating in an "economic blackout" to protest the rollback of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, from several large and certain corporations, that impact all who live in the United States. This movement encourages individuals to halt non-essential purchases from major corporations for 24 hours, highlighting the economic power of everyday consumers—especially the Latin@ comunidad. Rather than delaying purchases, we encourage you to ???????????????? them toward businesses that align with our values. While the blackout emphasizes refraining from spending at large retailers, it also underscores the importance of supporting small, local businesses. When you choose to shop local and Shop Latino, you not only stand in solidarity with the movement but also contribute to the prosperity of Latino-owned businesses and their communities. Our community’s businesses play a vital role in fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and enriching our communities with our culture. If you can't find a Latino-owned business in our?growing directory, we invite you to add them at no cost as we continue building this essential resource. ?? Friday Feature ?? We’re thrilled to introduce?Lily Ontiveros, a dynamic Collegiate Cultura Ambassador at Silicon Valley Latino! A senior at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business, Liliana is a double major in Marketing and Spanish, with a minor in Retail Studies. Liliana Ontiveros is currently in the winter quarter of her senior year at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. She is double majoring in Marketing and Spanish with a minor in Retail Studies. Throughout her time at Santa Clara University, she has had the privilege of participating in various extracurricular organizations, including the ACE Leadership Program, where she served as a member, mentee, and mentor. Additionally, she?joined the Bronco Academy of Mentorship, starting as a mentor in her junior year and now serving as the Mentorship Chair for this term. Within her sorority, Alpha Delta Pi (Theta Pi chapter), she has held two officer positions, serving as Director of Inclusion and Wellness Specialist. She has also served as President of the Panhellenic Honor Society during her junior year, where she facilitated connections among collegiate women in Greek life through community service events and an award ceremony. Liliana has also had the pleasure of working at Coherus BioSciences as a digital marketing intern, at Study.com as a growth marketing intern and at SVA Life Sciences?Consulting as a Digital marketing intern. She is expected to graduate with academic Cum Laude honors in June 2025. After graduation, she aspires to collaborate on marketing campaigns that foster connection through authentic storytelling in the retail industry while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
