Starting today, February 28 and over the next several months, consumers across the nation are participating in an "economic blackout" to protest the rollback of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, from several large and certain corporations, that impact all who live in the United States. This movement encourages individuals to halt non-essential purchases from major corporations for 24 hours, highlighting the economic power of everyday consumers—especially the Latin@ comunidad. Rather than delaying purchases, we encourage you to ???????????????? them toward businesses that align with our values. While the blackout emphasizes refraining from spending at large retailers, it also underscores the importance of supporting small, local businesses. When you choose to shop local and Shop Latino, you not only stand in solidarity with the movement but also contribute to the prosperity of Latino-owned businesses and their communities. Our community’s businesses play a vital role in fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and enriching our communities with our culture. If you can't find a Latino-owned business in our?growing directory, we invite you to add them at no cost as we continue building this essential resource. Juntos, let's make a meaningful impact by consistently directing our spending toward businesses that value and uplift our communities—not just for 24 hours, but every day. We will be posting this only to our Linkedin profile today and not to our other social media platforms as we support this blackout! In this third edition of our Immigrant Support Series we know that starting over in a new country is never easy. Immigrants and refugees arrive with hope and resilience, yet they face barriers to housing, employment, healthcare, and legal support. The journey to stability requires compassionate organizations that step up to provide the resources and guidance needed to rebuild lives with dignity. At the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley, and Canal Alliance, these dedicated teams work tirelessly to support immigrants with resettlement services, legal aid, career pathways, and mental health support. Their impact is life-changing, ensuring that individuals and families don’t just survive but thrive in their new communities. We invite you to read our latest feature, share their mission, and find ways to support. Because when we create pathways for opportunity, we build a stronger future for all.
