November is California Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month. Since 2011, California recognizes the month as a time to celebrate the contributions of Sikh Americans to the state, to condemn hate, and to encourage Sikh Americans to practice their faith fearlessly. We've gathered resources you can use in the classroom and at home to celebrate the month as well as foster pride and understanding in your students and communities. These resources can be used year-round to touch on many different topics. How will you incorporate these into your teaching? Let us know in the comments! Access our coloring books and AANHPI book lists at https://lnkd.in/eY-zivE4 #MakeUsVisible #MakeUsVisibleCA #Sikh #SikhAwareness #SikhAwarenessAndAppreciationMonth #EducationalResources

    CEO of Zara Consulting Group

I was born in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, representing DOABA with pride! I grew up in Oxford, MA, and Indianapolis, IN. As a first-generation immigrant, the first in my family to graduate, a small business owner, and a Sikh-Punjabi woman, I voted to create a better life for myself. I voted to ensure my 90-something-year-old Bibi can walk down the street feeling safe and secure. The MAGA agenda is fueling violence and aggression, even towards our most vulnerable populations. I voted so my students can proudly wear their Patkas at school, and so parents don’t have to worry that their children are being indoctrinated with an overemphasis on Christianity in the curriculum. I voted to support my undocumented high school students who are victims of human trafficking, exploited by those who “allow” them to work at gas stations just to pay rent, leaving them with nothing to survive. I could go on. Many of you remain in your privileged positions, unable to understand the situations that extend beyond your perspective. Let’s strive to build a world where compassion and empathy shape our actions instead of greed and power. GET OUT AND VOTE so my Bibi can continue to live in peace, surrounded by her great-grandchildren. #ElectionDay
