Thank you for the mention in the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution #JustResolution newsletter, Kassi Burns! As Kassi mentioned, "Much like the scales of justice, it is vitally important that any use of AI-based tool is implemented in a balanced and fair approach." Recently, our evidence discovery software was utilized by a federal public defender, resulting in a significant reduction of their video review time from 40 hours to only 12 hours. Additionally, our AI technology was able to detect the involvement of additional law enforcement officers whose body-worn cameras had not been turned over. It also identified dialogue that indicated implicit bias was at play and evidence that contradicted the police reporting. At SIID, we aim to improve the public's access to justice by providing attorneys, particularly public defenders with limited resources, with the necessary tools to expedite discovery and deliver quality and timely legal services. If last week's negotiations in the EU trilogue to reach a provisional agreement towards the EU AI Act is any indication, conversations around AI Ethics are not going away. If anything, we should expect continued focus on the ethical use of AI, including how AI can be used to balance the scales towards social justice. Tina Patterson, MDR, MCIArb, CF APMP was kind enough to ask me to participate in the November edition of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Just Resolution newsletter and I was inspired to write about how we can use emerging technologies to make access to justice... more accessible. My article highlights Eri O. and the work she is doing through her company SIID Technologies to make AI-enabled tech available to defense counsel, public defenders, and to help educate law enforcement and prosecutors. Thanks again to Tina for inviting me to write on a topic that is incredibly important. I hope we continue these conversations about access to justice. #accesstojustice #ethicalai #aiethics ?2023.
