I’m back for the next installment in my wrap-up from #HLTH24.? The focus on AI’s role in advancing the health experience was undeniable and it was clear that the conversation has shifted from potential to proven use cases (thanks to Vikesh Tahiliani MD, MBA, Samta Shukla, PhD, Shawn Gremminger, Steve Sutherland, Marisa Cruz, M.D., Mike Devoy, and Ramesh Durvasula for sharing your insights!) This shift means we’re no longer asking if AI can enhance healthcare but rather, how we ensure it continues to scale ethically and effectively. So, here’s the challenge: for AI to succeed at scale, it’s not enough for the technology itself to be advanced. The real key lies in what I call the “AI Trifecta”—a dynamic balance of quality, adoption, and ethical accountability that ensures AI doesn’t just work but works well for everyone: ?? Humans in the Loop to Safeguard Quality: Healthcare takes its ethical responsibilities seriously, so the most common AI adoption has focused on low-risk administrative tasks. Even in administrative functions, AI needs human oversight to ensure accuracy and align with clinical standards. The words that kept being repeated over and over in the panels was 'Humans In The Loop'. Ai can't do it alone. By keeping clinicians and administrators involved in critical decision points, we're seeing healthcare organizations ensure that AI-driven processes enhance rather than detract from care quality, preventing errors and managing the inherent complexity of healthcare. ? Change Management to Drive Effective Adoption: AI’s potential will only be fully realized through successful change management. It's not just about a process revision, rather it's about long-term behavior and engagement change for entire workforces.? Senior leaders are implementing new ways to embed AI within everyday healthcare operations.??Bayer is thinking about educational programs for the entire organization to become multi-skilled and Eli Lilly and Company is thinking about gamification to drive behavior change and adoption. ? Data Governance and Security to Maintain Ethical Responsibility/Trust: Gen Ai is advancing at a pace we've never seen before. Along with it, the amount of data generated. But here’s the crux: without ironclad data governance and security measures, AI’s promise could collapse under the weight of mistrust. Trust isn’t just nice to have; it’s essential for AI’s adoption and long-term success in healthcare. Organizations now recognize this, dedicating as much effort to building AI compliance and legal teams as they do to advancing the technology itself—a reassuring shift toward ethical responsibility that prioritizes patient privacy and security at every step. #HTLH24 #HLTHUSA #Significo #Healthcare #AI

From AI to digital therapeutics, there is so much opportunity to?help people live healthier lives. Another key takeaway was the importance of catching disease early and preventing it. While many startups are focusing on wellness, integrating clinical insights and input from?payors?is crucial for reducing total costs and achieving better outcomes. Burnout and labor shortages were another big focus. Doctors and nurses are overwhelmed, and AI is stepping in to help. By handling those repetitive, admin-heavy tasks, technology can free up?HCPs?to do what they do best?—?care for people. The future is bright for health, we just have to continue to #BeBold.
