Last week, SignalFire's?Tony Pezzullo? and?Ryan Wexler? hosted a cybersecurity+AI panel as part of our SignalFire AI Lab series, featuring Snehal Antani?of?Horizon3.ai,?Yaron Singer of?Cisco, and?Nandan Thor?of?Palo Alto Networks?. Here are some standout takeaways on what these security leaders see as the future of AI in cybersecurity: ???A Shifting Security Paradigm - Traditional methods can’t keep up—AI must be embedded across workflows. - Attack timelines are shrinking as AI enables faster actions by bad actors, requiring defenders to adapt quickly. - The shift is on: from "human-in-the-loop" to "humans-by-exception." ???AI's Transformative Role in Cybersecurity - SOCs (Security Operations Centers) are set to look entirely different within 5 years. - Autonomous systems will identify and prioritize threats almost instantly. - LLMs are driving faster, more comprehensive threat intelligence gathering. ???Winning Strategies for Security Startups in the AI Age - Think like a data company, not just a security company. - Your biggest edge? Speed and a higher risk appetite. - Target edge cases where large enterprises hesitate to innovate. ???Big Challenges Ahead - Building a true data moat is essential for long-term success. - Ethical AI requires robust, multi-layered security strategies. - Balancing breakthrough innovation with responsible AI practices is non-negotiable. A huge thank you to our expert panelists for their invaluable insights. #AI #Cybersecurity #Innovation #FutureOfTech

How startups are harnessing big data and AI to simplify life for healthcare pros: ?????? ?????????????? Heart disease claims 1 in 3 lives, but overworked doctors often can’t provide full-time attention to every patient. Recora? is changing that. By analyzing data from virtual checkups, it alerts doctors to patients at higher risk of another heart attack. The result? An impressive reduction in readmission rates to 11%, well below the national average. ?????? ???????????? Nurses spend nearly half their time on admin tasks instead of patient care. Enter Diligent Robotics? and Moxi, the robot that takes on non-patient-facing tasks like fetching supplies and delivering lab samples. Last year alone, Moxi freed up 200,000 hours, giving nurses more time for what matters most—caring for patients. ?????? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? Payors lose $300 billion annually on unused or unnecessary medications. The Wellth? app changes that by using behavioral economics to boost medication adherence with an insurance-subsidized monthly rewards program. Miss a pill and you lose part of your reward—a smart use of loss aversion that’s led to a 42% drop in hospital visits for users. ?????? ???????????? Biotechs spend 70% of their budget on R&D, yet many of them still rely on Excel, consultants, and disparate software to manage it. Auxilius? redefines this process by automating everything into one streamlined accounting tool for clinical trials, saving pharma companies 3 to 4 days of work every month. ?????? ???????????????????? ?????????????????? Marketing healthcare services on platforms like Facebook without adhering to strict privacy laws can lead to million-dollar fines. Freshpaint? a makes it easy for companies to stay HIPAA-compliant by filtering out sensitive customer data, while still using powerful analytics offered by top advertisers. How to get promoted in engineering, according to an analysis of more than 1 billion job changes from the last two decades: ?????????????????? Engineers from elite engineering colleges see only a slight lift in their ability to get promoted. After three years, specialization and experience matter much more than pedigree. Most surprisingly, we found engineers who never attended college have consistently been able to land jobs and get promoted. For instance, about 30% of data engineers don’t have a degree—roughly the same rate as a decade ago. ?????? ???????? The best hack for an early-career promotion? Having a specialization. Engineers in fields like DevOps and data engineering can shave an average of six months to more than a year off the average time to a promotion, compared to general engineers. These jobs are more in demand because fewer people have those specialized skills. ?????????????? ???????? It takes 2.3 years for the average startup engineer to get promoted, compared to 2.7 years at a big company. Considering this is across tens of millions of developers, these small differences are quite significant. A lesson: If you’re looking for a promotion and have been in your job for three years and it hasn’t happened, you might want to consider a conversation internally (or looking to other companies). In those situations, strategic lateral moves to diversify experience typically result in raises and promotions faster. We built this analysis using our Beacon AI data platform, which taps into dozens of data sources covering more than 80 million companies. Why measuring engineering productivity matters for startups: The key to scaling your startup isn't just about hiring more engineers—it's about maximizing their impact. But how do you measure something as complex as software engineering productivity? It's not as simple as counting lines of code or tracking hours worked. That's why we're excited to share insights from ?? Vitaly Gordon?, CEO of Faros AI?, on smart ways to measure engineering productivity. As Vitaly explains, context is crucial. What works for an early-stage startup focused on rapid innovation will differ from a scaling company balancing growth and stability. The SPACE framework offers a holistic approach, measuring satisfaction, performance, activity, communication, and efficiency. But the specific metrics that matter most will depend on your startup's unique goals, operating model, and culture. As your org grows, you’ll also need to adjust the metrics you measure for the best approach. Want to learn how to create an engineering productivity program tailored to your startup's needs? Check out our blog post featuring Vitaly's full insights on selecting the right metrics for your stage and goals (link in comments). #EngineeringProductivity #StartupGrowth

Building an AI-enabled business for verticalized industries presents both opportunities and challenges. We believe that startups that can find ways to apply new frameworks to their product and GTM approaches can build the most powerful advantages. Wayne Hu discuss seven emerging frameworks for building AI-enabled vertical SaaS businesses today on the blog: #verticalsaas
Vertical AI is reshaping industries, representing a staggering $6 trillion opportunity in annual U.S. services spending. This emerging frontier dwarfs the $600 billion market cap of all cloud software combined, tackling previously intractable problems by addressing unstructured data—a realm that makes up 80% of all data. At SignalFire, we're witnessing a fundamental shift in how startups approach product development, monetization, and growth in this space. It's akin to the "Fosbury flop" in high jumping—finding unconventional ways to overcome industry challenges rather than just trying to "jump higher." We've identified seven powerful frameworks for success in vertical AI, including networked SaaS, data defensibility, and AI-business-in-a-box models. These strategies enable startups to create multisided platforms, build proprietary datasets, and empower individuals to launch AI-driven businesses. Companies like Verse?, EvenUp?, and Grow Therapy? are leading the charge, demonstrating how vertical AI can transform industries from healthcare to legal services. It's exciting to see these innovations unfold, creating more efficient value chains and deeper market entrenchment than traditional SaaS models. Read all about the seven frameworks via the link in comments. #startups #genai
