关于我们

At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

The cost of policies rooted in xenophobia and hate comes as the cost of the peace, joy, and solitude we promised to us on our public lands. We learned that in 2012 when Trayvon Martin was killed for walking down a public street, in 2020 when Ahmaud Arbery was killed for running down a public street, and in 2023 when Texas unconstitutionally converted a Eagle Pass - a public park - into a staging area for military operations at the border. Today, the arc of policies infused in hate has reached our public lands at Big Bend National Park in west Texas (again) - the same location where a teenager, Esequiel Hernandez Jr. was shot and killed in 1997 while herding goats by a Marine in camouflage. We must refuse to add backcountry hiking, paddling on wild and scenic rivers, or observing the awe of dark skies in our National Parks as activities we can no longer do in peace. We also remember that the Soldiers arriving from Colorado took an oath the defend the Constitution of the United States – not diminish the experience of the 500,000 annual visitors at Big Bend while their children attend schools that devalue their experiences, legislators pass budgets which eliminate critical resources, and administrators wantonly destroy the Veterans Affairs healthcare systems many will rely on to cope with issues arising from military service. https://lnkd.in/e4VViaib

Trump's Nominee to run the Fish & Wildlife Service is a disaster for endangered species. A Senate committee considered Donald Trump's nominee to run the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Brian Nesvik has a long record of hampering species recovery, including calling for grizzly bears to be taken off the endangered species list. Donald Trump and his allies in Congress have made it clear they want to give away our public lands, including its critical habitat, to corporate polluters and billionaires. Nesvik will no doubt follow Trump's lead over protecting imperiled wildlife. sc.org/wildlife

Congress is trying to kill the Endangered Species Act. New bill would amend iconic law's ability to protect wildlife. Today, a House committee held a hearing on a bill that would drastically limit the Endangered Species Act's ability to protect our country's imperiled wildlife. Anti-wildlife legislators have wanted to scrap the ESA for years, but this is the biggest threat yet. It's no secret Donald Trump's allies in Congress want to trash the law to make it easier to give away our public lands, and the critical habitats they contain, to corporate polluters and billionaires. sc.org/wildlife

There's no denying that oil and gas production produces carbon, leading to a warmer planet. This shift is pushing weather to the extreme: hurricanes that bring flooding. Fires that pollute the air we breathe. Some states are using polluter Superfund laws to model new climate laws that require major oil producers to pay for their role in exacerbating this deadly weather. The state laws are modeled after the landmark 1980 federal Superfund law, which created a trust fund financed by a tax on the petroleum and chemical industries to pay for the cleanup of hazardous waste sites. They operate under the polluter-pays principle, a concept in environmental law that requires bad actors to pay for the costs of pollution attributed to their activities ?? https://bit.ly/4iLU7SX ?? In yet another giveaway to corporate polluters, Trump just signed an executive order that prioritizes mining and expedites mining projects without any regard for local communities, outdoor access, cultural resources, clean water, or wildlife. We need our members of Congress to fight back against these egregious attacks on the public lands we love. Tell them to do all they can to keep polluters' hands off our public lands! ?? sc.org/LandsAction

Trump's Interior Department just took the first steps in handing over up to 19 million acres of Arctic lands to Big Oil CEOs. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced the department would move to remove protections for public landscapes in the Western Arctic and Arctic Refuge to give corporate polluters free rein to drill for oil and gas. We stand with the Gwich’in and Alaska Natives in opposing these actions. We will do everything in our power to stop the giveaway and preserve our wild and special places for the next generation ?? https://bit.ly/4kZQyKS
