The Center at Sierra Health Foundation's Community Economic Mobilization Initiative (CEMI) just released their year one report, offering insights that will help guide ongoing improvements and ensure accountability. Developed in partnership with third-party evaluator Informing Change, the report draws on feedback from funded partners through surveys, focus groups, grant data analysis and interviews. Key findings highlight strong alignment with The Center’s values, with the majority of partners expressing trust in CEMI’s support and flexibility. Notably, nearly half of funded partners are actively participating in California Jobs First Collaboratives, demonstrating the program’s role in driving collaborative efforts to advance inclusive economic development in California’s historically excluded communities. **Power to the People: Investing in Clean Transportation & Community Action** How can communities drive the decisions that shape their neighborhoods? Join us for the final **Sierra Health Foundation Speaker Series** event of the year on **Tuesday, December 3**, from **1:00 PM to 2:30 PM** as we explore the urgent shift from traditional infrastructure—like roads and highways—to investing in sustainable, low-carbon transportation options. Think dedicated walking and biking paths, electrified public transit, and electric vehicle infrastructure—especially in under-resourced communities. Hana Creger, Associate Director of Climate Equity at The Greenlining Institute, will be joined by a powerful panel of policy and community experts to discuss how we can reform state agencies and build stronger community partnerships to ensure public investments are centered on the needs of the people. With the climate crisis demanding urgent action, it's time for a shift in how we prioritize infrastructure spending. https://lnkd.in/g235j6rq Mayor Rey León de Hurón, Simeon Gant, Jeanie Ward-Waller #CleanTransportation #ClimateEquity #CommunityAction #InfrastructureReform #SustainableFuture #Greenlining #SpeakerSeries #PowerToThePeople #ClimateJustice

In 2023, the nonprofit Impact Justice embarked on a journey with a diverse group of Americans to Finland, exploring how Nordic countries have successfully reduced their reliance on incarceration. By prioritizing housing and social support, Finland's prison environments focus on nurturing personal growth and dignity rather than punishment. Known as the "Nordic Model," this approach fosters reintegration into society, offering a stark contrast to the punitive systems we see in the United States. As #California begins to implement aspects of the Nordic Model in facilities like San Quentin, the film "Building Justice: A Journey to Finland" challenges us to envision what is possible here in the U.S. The potential for transformation is within reach—yes, Chet P. Hewitt, it is possible to end mass incarceration. We encourage you to watch the film on YouTube and join the conversation about how we can create a more just and equitable system. Together, we can inspire change! #MassIncarceration #NordicModel #BuildingJustice #CriminalJusticeReform

At the recent California Forward California Economic Summit our CEO Chet P. Hewitt joined Eloy Oakley from College Futures Foundation for a fireside chat to talk about transformational approaches to #climate and #education. They took a deep dive together into the role of post-secondary education and its real-world implications in the transition to a green economy. Eloy talked about the importance of aligning post-secondary learning with meaningful outcomes, emphasizing that the conversation shouldn't be framed around privilege. He passionately argued for making the green economy accessible to all and advocated for a broader recognition of the value of community colleges alongside four-year institutions. Chet shared, "The pathway out of poverty is not service. It's opportunity." Emphasizing the critical connection between education and health, he pointed out how education serves as a protective factor, playing a crucial role in shaping one’s future. Thank you to all who participated and to California Forward for hosting the summit. Together, we will continue to advocate for change in California's economic landscape. Stay tuned for CA FWD's event video to catch up on the full discussion - coming soon. ?? #CAFWDFiresideChat #EconomicSummit #EducationEquity #GreenEconomy #OpportunityForAllDiscussion ***Photo credit: CA FWD and Meagan Lucy Photographers***

A heartfelt thank you to our partners at the Black Child Legacy Campaign, Ball Out Academy, the Sacramento Kings, and all the dedicated coaches and volunteers who made this season unforgettable. Our Championship Gameday at Sac State showcased the power of teamwork and determination. Here’s to bright futures ahead for our youth and families. ?? #KingsAndQueensRise #YouthDevelopment #CommunityEngagement
This week we placed our final touch on what was an incredibly impactful summer. Kings and Queens Rise Youth League brought to you by The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Black Child Legacy Campaign in partnership with KEY community organizations and the Sacramento Kings was a huge success! Serving over 350 youth through the span of 9 weeks with a violence prevention and community enrichment strategy. This is HEART and hard work but absolutely worth it! We set out to intentionally pour into Black Youth and Families, creating safe spaces for engagement and personal development; our partners did that and more. This year we added a few new components by introducing KQR Cheer, recognizing outstanding youth with awards and highlighting coaches who went above and beyond not only sacrificing their Saturdays but intentionally uplifting the culture of excellence, non-violence, development and unity in the community. Incredibly proud of our team! KQR ON 3, FAMILY ON ME! ?????? #sacramento #violenceprevention #youthdevelopment #communityadvocacy #bclc #kqr #unity #raacd #legacy
