Destini and Celeste, Siembra alumni and now Public Allies, are making a meaningful impact as they return to their former high school. Through this AmeriCorps-affiliated program at UNM, they are gaining hands-on experience while helping to support and uplift the Siembra community. As Public Allies, their roles involve leading school tours, advocating for Siembra, and building relationships with community partners. Destini, now studying elementary education at UNM, shares, “The teachers didn’t just care about my grades—they cared about me as a person. They wanted me to succeed in life. We tell middle school students considering Siembra, ‘Your teachers will care about you. You won’t have 100 missing assignments hanging over your head. They’ll support you.’" Celeste, currently pursuing nursing at Carrington College, adds, “It feels so good to be back here, helping a school that helped us so much. I love being part of something that helps students find their path, just like Siembra did for me.” Their work exemplifies the power of connection, mentorship, and paying it forward.
